Overview & Reviews
The all-new R-Class -- a premium wagon with more than a trace of minivan and SUV in its DNA -- joins the Mercedes-Benz lineup for 2006.
- Good performance, ritzy interior, supreme comfort and versatility.
- Long rear doors a problem in tight parking spaces.

Perfect for Moms! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By Sheri S. - June 11 - 8:53 amI love this vehicle! I am a Mom with two children under the ages of three and wanted a luxury, sporty vehicle that was very safe and drives likes "a dream"! I found it in this R class. It is so kid friendly yet I dont feel like it even compares to a wagon/mini- van. After owning a BMW 5 series, Mercedes CLK and a Lexus RX...I am ecstatic to own this vehicle! Also, a big thank you to the team at Loeber Motors in Lincolnwood, IL for their terrific customer service!

Teutonic Genius - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By Bill - February 4 - 10:13 amThis is my 5th MB and it has been a pleasant surprise. It is a superbly designed, extremely safe, highly functional multi-purpose vehicle. At 28 - 30 mpg on the freeways at 70+ mph, who could complain. Any comparison with the Pacifica is dillusional at best. Recommendation to mfr: make memory seating standard, especially at this price!

Luxury Car for Big Families - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By kmk - August 16 - 9:10 pmWe have 4 kids of all ages and sizes. We found the R class to be the only luxury car to fit us all comfortably, especially the 3rd row. Very safe, fairly fuel efficient, and has a great ride!

The Early Review - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By mbrfan - July 19 - 2:16 pmI have watched MB develop the R from the GST concept several years ago and owning one has been rewarding. Solid drive, comfortable but sport feel, large interior room but nimble. The 268 HP and associated torque are fine, making the R500 extra 30+ HP and additonal torque unnecessary - in my mind. The dash "menu" displays are very weak and must be improved. They work but are weak. The Nav system is dated both in use and POIs; The MB Tex in rows 2 & 3 isnt close to best in class. The American market will take a few years to adopt the R - or not. I like wagons so this is great but not everyone will endear themselves to the R. MB will figure out the content vs price in MY 06/07.

Fabulous vehicle - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By Elyse Ettinger - June 8 - 11:30 pmThis car is a terrific alternative to the E class wagon I had previously. The interior space could not be better designed or equipped. The ride is similiar to the S class, but the vehicle design is much better for families. My only suggested improvement is the mileage needs to be improved, but otherwise, absolutely no complaints. I have gotten numerous compliments on the exterior design in the few weeks I have had it. Kids are loving the dual screen DVD players, no arguing who gets to pick the movie! The sun roof just goes on and on-very nice!

Great luxury family car - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By R350 new owner - April 19 - 1:40 amThe interior is one of the most luxurious; the exterior needs to grow on you (my wife loves). The $5000 off invoice unadvertised special makes it the best buy. Handling and noise level are great. Maybe some of the options should be standard. Overall, great family car to drive if you dont want a minivan or the full size SUV.

Keep it around - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By brubon - February 20 - 12:50 pmThis is the best Mercedes on the highhway for comfort and drivability. Plenty of room inside for 6 adults comfortably, and as fuel efficient as my old Acura MDX...and its a V8. Great vehicle.

The quickest family hauler for six. - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By Laurenz Peschke - December 10 - 9:40 pmOur requirements: comfort and room for 5 (3 kids, ages 5, 8, 10) plus dog, power, versatility for different needs; all-wheel drive, useful as commuter and travel vehicle. Went on two 800 mile trips, packed 4 people, their stuff, took the lab to the kennel, and continued the trip to pick up the other two incl. their stuff from camp without a roof carrier: it all fit. The R500 has superb handling, performance, and comfort for a vehicle this size. Even the kids prefer our R over our MDX. Gas mileage is better than advertised. I got 20.3 mpg over 300 miles at avg 64mph, including 40 miles city driving. Normal, passive town driving: 16mpg; aggressive: 13mpg. Love the design inside/out.
