Overview & Reviews
The M-Class' navigation system enters the 21st century by ditching the old CD-ROM-based design for a much more efficient DVD-based setup. This is the lone change as the MLs received numerous updates last year.
- Safe, comfortable, brisk performance, surefooted in bad weather.
- On-road handling eclipsed by newer crossover SUVs, gets pricey fast if buyer gets tempted by too many options.

Mighty Fine Vehicle - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Sacha Prins - December 26 - 10:00 amI traded in my 2000 ML320 (old model) for a 2002 ML55 (new model) last may, and I must say that besides the obvious performance gain, the quality of the car (interior, rattling, overall quality) has also improved a lot. Im basically a very happy camper, and besides a recall involving the powersteering everything has been fine. This car and the dealership I bought it at live up to my Mercedes-Benz quality expectations. I dont quite understand the static the other reviewers give the ML55. The only thing against the car would be the fuel milage.

Too many problems for a real MB - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Arturo - December 18 - 8:03 amMy second ML, realy enjoy the ride and the sense of security on this SUV. But unfortunately Im very disapointed with too many little things that were never solve by MB and too many big repairs that came right after the waranty expired (central locking system, rear wiper motor -how often do you use it?-, engine problems never solve by service department, heated seats burn my legs, speed sensitive volume on audio system,... etc, etc, etc. Tires and brake life is less than 22,000 miles. Overall great looking and confortable SUV, with too many problems for a MB

A Very Strong Capable Vehicle - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Tough on Cars - March 8 - 2:00 amThe ML500 is a rock solid SUV. It is fast as hell and can hold up well against very bad roads. I was very impressed by the traction in the snow and rain. I was driving more cautiously than I should have. The SUV is built extremely well, I feel safe and secure in this care. It is very fun to drive and a head turner.

Consumer - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Merc - January 13 - 10:00 amNot up to par on features vis-a-vis competitors in same price range. Significantly improved quality since intro in 98 Already see condensation in left headlight assembly. Will have to get replaced. Not something I would expect in a $50,000 vehicle. Had I not gotten a terrific deal. I would have gone to competition but they are all selling at MSRP or above. (Volvo, Toureg, Cadillac, Lexus) Ridiculous.

Can you believe - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Joey Martin - October 11 - 10:00 amI have owned this ML 500 for 6 yrs and it has a total of 174,000 mi. It has been bullet proof! Yes its hard on brakes, every 22k mi. Tires depending on brand 30-35K. Mechanically, the only major issue? I just had the dealer install a new power steering pump at 171,000 mi. Wow! Great SUV, the best MB I have ever owned. Why get a new one?

Love this SUV, but... - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Armani - September 21 - 4:06 amI bought this car 5 month ago. I was the second owner. The car was one of the top-notch options-equipped and one of the dream cars you wish to buy. I love this car for the way it handles the road and the luxury you barely find in American cars. Although it was the best car I rode so far, I am thinking of selling it for the sole reason of the gas mileage specially when it comes to $3.50 per gallon. One more thought, When you are driving a Mercedes SUV do not compare the feeling with an S class ride. Got it? It a tough rugged SUV with a Mercedes logo.

Enjoyment - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Nole - September 7 - 10:00 amAfter having driving a Chev Suburban for serveral years, the ML-350 is an excellent choice. All the comforts and extras. Fuel economy could be better but it still outshines the Suburban.

Good truck - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By indeed - July 26 - 10:00 amThe M-Class is now reaching five years old. As Edmunds.com has said, it was a great handling truck back then-- but now everything is car-based and the M is being left behind. As a truck, great. As a crossover, forget it.

Black Lemon - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By bleigh - June 28 - 3:46 pmI love this car...but Mercedes doesnt back their product like they would have you believe. First, the steering column was replaced (reluctantly, by MB); then after putting me off repeatedly while "trying this and that" (until the warranty ran out) about a gear noise in the front left wheel, they replaced the transfer case. MB ended up charging me for half of this repair, despite the fact that they said theyd take care of it. I still love the car, but this dealership has cured me of ever wanting another one. New battery and alternator cost me $1000~!
