Overview & Reviews
The M-Class' navigation system enters the 21st century by ditching the old CD-ROM-based design for a much more efficient DVD-based setup. This is the lone change as the MLs received numerous updates last year.
- Safe, comfortable, brisk performance, surefooted in bad weather.
- On-road handling eclipsed by newer crossover SUVs, gets pricey fast if buyer gets tempted by too many options.

2003 ML 500 - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By disappointed - October 23 - 1:36 amVery comfortable seats. Very good gas mileage for engine and type of vehicle. 15 in town; 19-21 on road. Very good handling and drivability. Ride slightly harsh. Excellent turning circle. Poor brake wear. New rotors and pads every 18-22 M miles at a ludicrous cost. Front shocks needed replacement at 47,000 miles. Thank goodness car is still under warranty. Dealer cost to replace $850. Power steering hose clamp blew at 40,000 miles. BAS went at 42,000. Reliability poor for a premium brand.

Great all round SUV - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By P.G.P. - October 5 - 10:00 amThis is my third ML, owned a 2000 430, a 2002 500 and now just took delivery of my 03 ML500 with the Inspiration Pkg. Handling and performance is fantastic but to make it even better I changed the springs to lower the vehicle ~1 1/2" - it really improves the cornering performance and still leaves a little travel for minor off- roading.

A Few Flaws - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By ErikVB - July 11 - 10:00 amGot an ML 350 with 3rd row seating. Great option for those with children under 12 as they fold out of the way sideways and can be removed entirely pretty easily. Car is beautiful with Inspiration pkg and upgraded sound system is a must. I knew mpg wasnt going to be good, but faulty gas gauge sensor has made it worse (Could only go 200 miles on a tank, as sensor wasnt reading final 7 gallons or so). Also the moonroof didnt open properly at first and after getting it fixed, the weatherstripping around it is now falling off. I am hopeful dealer will be able to fix permanently. All in all, fun car to drive with a few production defects.
