This Year's Model Updates:

The base E320 is replaced with the E350 for 2006. The new model name indicates a new engine -- a 3.5-liter V6 with 268 hp, a 20-percent increase from the previous E320.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedan and wagon models.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

  • After four months of driving - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I dearly love the car, if I can keep it out of the shop. It is the small things, like keyless go has given me fits (three service visits). Now the steering wheel up and down module is out (6 hours of labor). Other small things have gone out. I love the power, the economy of fuel, Sirius radio, GPS, and comfort, but overall quality stinks.

The CDI has become r fave car vs 300 hp CLK V8 coupe and ML SUV Roomy, comfortable almost 2 ton panzer should be safer in collision as mass & room inside to decelerate vitals before contacting int. surfaces. Get heated seats - great for sore back & xenons really lite your way. Trip computer reads 32.0 mpg 4 the last 16457 miles! I never reset it, but they do reset at the various required MB services (battery disconnected?) Torque is incredible, this is a 5 sp auto with inline 6 turbo, a bit of lag, but u get used to it. If you are looking for a diesel for your own homemade biofuel, get inline 6 as unlike the new V6 diesel (2007 and up) the MB mech says inline can run on it with mods. Has been very reliable

  • CDI is way to go - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The CDI at 34 mpg on my last 3600 mile road trip cant be beat. I do miss a middle armrest but the distronic seats make up for it. The car is fast. I do find the Harmon Kardon radio a tad less bass capable than I like

Overall very good car. But has some quality issues that I would not expect in a $50k car. Driver seat squeaks (had to take twice to dealership), screws in plate holder became loose. A/C is noisy, fan in auto mode seems stuck in position 5. Had it checked, MB said it was normal. Other than that, is it a comformtable sedan with a spacious trunk. Engine is powerful with great gas mileage. You can easily get 26 MPG in freeway driving.

  • Consumer Reports was right - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

We were undecided between Lexus and MB,decided to go with an e350 with only 17000 miles. This car has the smoothest ride of any vehicle weve owned, including BMW. The problem has been with reliability-my car has been in the shop 5 times,I am currently in a loaner. Ranging from minor electrical problems to motor mounts. I am officially done! The dealership has been great and everything is under warranty. My wife is reluctant to get rid of the car because of the ride and appearance but this car has consumed to much of time!

  • Great Car - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Ever since I first saw the exterior styling of this E350 Ive wanted one. The style was continued until 2009, and then changed in 2010 to a more angular look. So the 2006 looks exactly like the 2009 and the same model before it. This model has more pep than I realized, and I like the details and safety of the car. Very comfy.

  • Have to get rid of this one. - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Wonderful to drive. Fabulous mileage. Have driven MB since 1982. This is my last one. Has left me on the side of the road three times away from my home state in only 21000 miles. Fuel lift pump and fuel gauge sender unit is weak. It must be the same as from the gas engined car. Unit has been replaced twice. Air conditioner freezes up after driving two or three hours and has to be turned off to thaw, but refreezes every thirty minutes or so. Dealership seems unable to fix it. Mysterious electronic bugs in display that come and go. Preheat indicator sometimes comes on and stays on for three or four minutes. This car is not reliable enough to drive long distances!

  • Expensive, but very fun - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I got this car in Feb 2005 - one of the first 2006 E350s to come off the boat in America. I had held off choosing between the 2005 model year E320 and E500 because I felt that there must be a better solution with more horsepower than the E320 but less cost than the E500. Sure enough, waiting one model year was worth it, because the E350 hits that sweet spot right between the old E320 and the E500.

  • What a Lemon - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Bought it 6/29. At 1000 miles, notification of airbag malfunction. Mercedes tells me not to drive it for safety. 600 miles after it got fixed, another notification of airbag malfunction. Mercedes has too many electrical problems. Never had problems with any of my Japan made cars (Lexus, Infiniti).

  • Great car. But poor engine quality - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Love this car, great cruiser, comfortable, great mileage and power. BUT, Mercedes has delivered a car with a poorly designed engine. At 62K, I got check engine light and taking to the dealer was informed that I have to replace the balance shaft of my engine for a cost of close to $6K. According to the advisor and validated by the many articles you can find on the web. Mercedes, E350 engine (this affects E350, ML350 and many other C class cars using the same engine) was built using a balance shaft that was not tempered properly. This affects 10% to 15% of the cars between 2006 and 2007 Worst of all Mercedes will not stand behind the poorly manufactured engine !!!
