This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 E-Class soldiers on unchanged, awaiting a redesign that will take place next year.

Pros:
  • Distinctive good looks, lots of standard safety equipment, available all-wheel drive, refined powertrains, rock-solid engineering.
Cons:
  • Stately rather than sporty, gimmicky COMAND system option, no manual transmissions available.

  • Solid car consistent with reputation - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

First car Ive ever owned with zero defects. Also my first automatic. Alittle clunky out of first gear when cold. Very powerful engine and unexpectedly great fuel economy. About 16 mpg in downtown Washington DC and a solid 30 mpg on the open road. Bose sound system is fantastic. Fit and finish are impeccable. Wish they sold a turbodiesel.

It took a long time to finally get the MB I always wanted, and Im not disappointed. Were going to keep this car a long, long time.

  • E 55 born to drive - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I first drove a Benz a couple of years prior to owning one, and I never thought I would have so much fun! I looked at and drove BMWs, Audis and a few domestics, but the E 55 blew them all away! With 355 bhp (according to factory specs) youll be attaining 0-60 in just under 6 sec. Its a true rocket ship that I just have a lot of fun driving. True, a bit expensive on repairs, but this thing is worth the effort! Go get one and enjoy! BCR

Love the automobile. Tire wear has been good. I just recently replaced them. This is the best experience I have had with any automobile in this area. My first experience with a lexury automoble. Bad experience with light bulbs- I have never owned an automobile that burned out so many, Merecedes replaced all of them under warrenty except the last two. They were marker lights and were easy to replace.Total cost for both was $2.25. Experience with the dealership has been great except that a mechanic missed a bad tire once. Cupholder in front is not the greatest.

  • Who Needs An SUV? - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I hate mini-vans! Give me a car or a truck. A MV is neither. Anyway, it was time to replace the wifes van and she wanted a new one. "How about an SUV?" I said. "NO WAY" came the reply. The not so obvious but perfect answer was an E320 4-Matic Wagon. Room for the "Soccer Mom" chores, AWD for the snow, and handling that makes you forget its a wagon! 23+ MPG at speed, try that in an SUV. Just go buy one!

My 2002 Mercedes-Benz E430 is an xcellent overall sedan. It has great performance, great handling, and has been trouble free.

Cheap materials both interior and exterior for an expensive car. Engine very quiet. Fixed A/C, radio in first year.

  • Luv-en It! - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Love the E320! Loved the design of 2002 vs more recent models, classic vs a more cloned look. Ride is great, acceleration is awesome with a smooth transmission even after 5 years! Fit and finish is in wonderful condition even after 5 years. Was unsure if purchase of a used vehicle was a smart move but with 1 year of ownership under my belt, very happy I made the choice. Seat warmers are weak, front interior lights are too bright- like looking into the sun.

  • Mercedes Benz, a complete waste of money - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

First off, I call myself "upgrading" from a 1998 Lexus GS300, but soon found out that I actually "downgraded" myself in this German problem. The air conditioner failed 2 times - one time it failed as soon as I picked the car up from being serviced. The brakes are an ongoing problem - they dont last more than 3 months and the brake dust that accumulates on my wheels (in the course of 1 day after cleaning them) is completely out of control. The fit and finish with the car is horrible: the interior door handle is peeling on both doors, bulbs constantly go out, the dashboard illumination is failing (which means no clock), etc. My advice, get a Lexus - when my lease expires, I certainly will!
