This Year's Model Updates:

Last year's Mercedes CLK320 gets a new 3.5-liter V6 for 2006 and is subsequently renamed the CLK350. New 17-inch alloy wheels and a seven-speed automatic transmission are also part of the upgrade. The more powerful CLK500 has a sportier interior this year, as well as an AMG-sourced exhaust. Finally, all 2006 CLKs have new active head restraints and a new grille and taillights.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, solid chassis, composed ride, comfortable front seats, fast power top operation in Cabriolet.
Cons:
  • High price, some subpar plastic trim, a few hard-to-use controls.

  • A Nice New Benz - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

Just got it just because, it was a great choice. But looking back I should have shopped around and thought more about my choices, the Volvo C70 is a few thousand cheaper with more features, but not as luxurious. And the Porsche Boxter had more performance, but not as many features. Overall I like my chioce, but test drive all convertibles in this class before you buy, to find the one that suits you best.

Car provides a good ride. The interior is comfortable but was not told that when it rains water get inside the car because there is no run-off or drainage system. After each rain, I must take a cloth and wipe the running board and the area under the doors and the sides, inside the car. $50K is a lot of money to spend for one to have to wipe the water out of the inside of the car each time it rains. When questioned was told "it is a design flaw" caused by the way the windows open and then close to seal for air tightness. Didnt they know about the "flaw"?

MB Reliability ??? Just got a CLK350 four wks ago. Transmision broke down at the first 300miles. Car stayed @ MB shop twice for 2+wks. Was told by MB Tech. that this is the 4th occurrences of transmission failure/defect for this year (2006) (C, E, ML and my CLK).

I purchased my CLK coupe in April of 06 and have regretted it every single day since. It looked beautiful at the dealership with its full Brabus tuning and appearance package. But as they say about Monets paintings; it was good from afar and far from good. The litany of problems with this car ranges from a new transmission at 20,000 miles to multiple broken window motors. And I dont even want to get started on the apocalyptic depreciation. In exactly 2 years of ownership, it is worth less than half of what I bought it for. It is such a terrible feeling to get into a car everyday and wonder what will go wrong with it next. So please take note and do not buy this car.

  • I Highly Recommend the BMW - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

I traded in a BMW 330 convertible on this car a little over a year ago. I was looking for something a little more luxurious, but with the fun of the convertible. I really wish I had the 5 year old BMW back. This car looks good, but thats about it. Boring to drive, doesnt hug the curves like Im used to. Ive also been very disappointed in the interior of this car. Very cheaply designed for the price. Navigation system is so outdated that most of my commute on a highway completed two years ago is not even on the system. No one can tell me when this will be updated. I put the top down about once a week and put it back up in the garage. It is showing far more wear than 5 yr old BMW.

  • CLK350-Classy car thats fun to drive!! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

This car feels strong & sturdy on the road, but not heavy (like the Volvo I test drove that wouldnt pick up speed). I love the space afforded in this coupe (coming from the teeny lexusSC430). Plenty of headroom & legroom, and both the driver & passenger seats can be adjusted from the seat "tuners" on the doors (including the height of the headrest). The Sirius satelite radio is nice, I liked the option of listening to the BBC news or the Discovery channel from our car. Some people have commented on there only being 1 cupholder, but there are two. One is right next to the gear shift, and the other one is located inside the arm rest (easy to get to by scrolling back the armrest).

  • Very pleased - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

Ive had the car for 5 months now and couldnt be more pleased. The car handles exactly like you would expect and has outstanding performance. I have the 500 convertible and it doesnt accelerate, it leaps forward. I can imagine how the 07 550 accelerates. I compared it to the Audi S4 and the BMW 6 convertibles. The only thing the Audi had on it was all wheel drive - but it came with a higher monthly lease cost. The BMW wasnt as attractive and the back seat was not worth having. The back seat on the Benz while not expansive can and has held 2 full size adults confortably. The convertible top works great although it could be a little faster and less sensitive to items in the trunk.

  • Exciting - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

The CLK350 is sporty and elegant. What a joy to drive. No need to worry about speed or safety, the car has both. Plenty of truck space and seats four comfortably. On top of all the wonderful features you get professional service support. Thanks for the awesome experience and ride.

  • Very Pleased - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

My second CLK Cabrio, traded a (trouble free) 2003. This car is a vast improvement over the already great former version. Beautiful to look at and fun to drive. Many great comfort features and trouble free at 2000 miles. Drove the 500, not worth the extra money, maybe the 550 will be better. iPod kit is awesome! MB has become more "Lexus-like" to compete, but the car is very refined. A little less plastic would be nice.

  • My Fifth Benz - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class
    By -

This is my 5th Benz and is beyond all expectations. (I drove my last one 250,000 miles so this one is several generations advanced). It handles like it is on rails and when I need the acceleration it is more than ample. The navigation system is the best and most intuitive that I have seen and wouldnt be without that accessory. And anyone who complains about cup holders shouldnt be driving a Benz. I prefer that it didnt have cup holders because I dont indulge the distraction of coffee, etc. while driving and I prefer that my passengers refrain from spilling latte on the interior.
