This Year's Model Updates:

Last year's Mercedes CLK320 gets a new 3.5-liter V6 for 2006 and is subsequently renamed the CLK350. New 17-inch alloy wheels and a seven-speed automatic transmission are also part of the upgrade. The more powerful CLK500 has a sportier interior this year, as well as an AMG-sourced exhaust. Finally, all 2006 CLKs have new active head restraints and a new grille and taillights.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, solid chassis, composed ride, comfortable front seats, fast power top operation in Cabriolet.
Cons:
  • High price, some subpar plastic trim, a few hard-to-use controls.

So far this has been a great car. I do miss the robust horsepower of the Vette I had but this car does have some quiet acceleration. Seems to be a very nice car.

Since Mercedes doesnt hold value like the Beamer I had before, I was able to get a great deal on a low mileage 06 in CT. The car is mint with Nav, black on black, etc etc. I am only in my 3rd week and I love it. Our other car is a Lexus ES350 which is a safe bet boring sedan and I convinced my wifey to get this for her. Lets just that it is not a 335 twin turbo but has enough power under the hood and looks better than comparable cars, way better. It drives well enough and I have been inventing excuses just to take it on the road. So far, I dont have any annoying rattles or anything. Best looking I owned.

  • Best Car ever - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

I purchased my CLK 350 one year ago and waited until now to see how it performed this past year, and it was great best car I have ever owned, and I have owned over 15 in the last 30 years. The ride is better than our Infiniti I35 much more quiet than the Lexes and BMW that I test drove. Everyone who rides along says this is a quiet car with lots of power. The interior fit and finish is great, the transmission shifts smoothly and the stability control are great. The ipod intergreation is what everyone should get. MB is the best every made.

  • Superb Convertible (Cabrio) - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

Had a 98 SL500 and went to this Black top over Alabaster White CLK350C with no regrets. 6 Cyl. is superb, no need for V8, which is a big concession for me. Agree with all other reviewers on positives. While in dash cup holder works, center console cup holder with tall cup is in the way of arm when using shifter. 7 speed tranny is fantastic and performs beautifully and not with low speed "clunks" like my 06 ML 500 w/all wheel drive.

  • Almost Great! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

This is my first Mercedes. Everything is great except for a few things. The seat back contours are designed/built for very skinny people. Even a Mitsubishi I had with wrap around seat backs, were adjustable. The dial temp controls arent very accurately adjustable (the 2002 Avalon I have are digitally adjustable with rocker up/down 1 degree increments). Ride & handling are superb for a convertible. Body is rigid with almost no twist on tight turns. Engines today should not require premium gas. The menu system is not very user friendly. And I just found out that the Nav. system is only updated every 5 years. Good thing I have portable Garmin units (which are easier to program).

Beautiful car, but I have had to get a new transmission and stability control system in less than a year after purchasing the car new.

  • What are they thinking? - 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

This car has no drink holders for soda cans or coffee cups at all. The seatbelts come forward for you to use them only if you start the car with the doors open. The roll bar in my convertible pops up whenever I go over a rumble strip in the road. The car looks great, but would I buy it again? Never. I will go back to the Mercedes sedans. Poor design of interior features and just no thought into what americans deem nice in their cars.

Bought the car new 20 months ago. Absolutely love it, but I only have 9,000 miles on it. Did this coming off of 18 years of Toyota ownership. Have replaced the amplifier on the premium sound system and a malfunctioning key fob under warranty. Dont know if this is standard operating procedure for pricy German cars. Not a sports car as much as it is a muscle car with 21st century refinement. Bought it after deciding I was too old and too fat to climb in and out of a 911 Cabriolet at the Porsche dealership. Went to the MB dealership expecting to buy an SL. Test drove both CLK 500 and an SL 500. Decided to get a back seat and pay $30,000 less than what the SL would have cost.

The air conditioning in this car takes too long to get cool. Also, 2 cupholders would be nice. This car is fun to drive and I enjoy it. Dont know if I would buy another because of the air and I live in Florida.
