This Year's Model Updates:

The RX-8 is an all-new car for 2004. Its arrival marks the return of Mazda's rotary engine to the U.S. market. Priced less than Nissan's 350Z, the RX-8 also offers four doors and a usable backseat.

Pros:
  • Low base price, agile handling yet still comfortable enough for daily use, room for four in a pinch.
Cons:
  • Option packages can get expensive, iffy interior ergonomics.

This is a great 2nd car. I do not recommend this as a daily though. Gas is fair (12-15mpg), room is A++ and fun factor is off the charts. The RX8 is a great car for attention and getting somewhere quickly, very quickly. To address some reviews that the car has no horsepower, keep in mind most of these people have autos. Also this car was meant to kick but after 4,000 RPMs. A Z will get you off the line, but you will catch up and pass! With a six speed you can 40 in first, 70 in second, 90 in 3rd (never went past 90 yet, I have a good driving record:). I dont recommend driving like that all the time, but if you need to get out of the way fast, you can.

I love driving this car. It handles great and fits me like a glove. I highly recommend this 4-door coupe.

I purchased my rx8 20 days ago and I think this car meets and exeeds my expectations. Suprisingly spacious and comfortable. My doughter has no complaints about the back seat at all. I have never driven a car that sticks the corners like this car, no matter how hard you push it wants to go faster. As far as straight line performance if you turn up the rpms not many cars are going to hang with you. Plain and simple its worth every penny and then some.

I bought my 04 RX8 in Feb of 2009 with 33k miles on it. Its now almost Nov 2009 with 41k on it. This car has been absolutely amazing (despite gas mileage). The rotary engine is a very high maintenance though, I was told by a Rotary Specialist, to let my car warm up to where it is idling at 1k rpm, and let it idle for 15-30 seconds before shutting it off (of course never shut the car off when its cold), and I have not had one single issue. The handling is great, I got a K&N short ram cold air intake which makes the biggest difference, so much louder then stock, you would be surprised. Got an extended warranty til 2014 (highly recommend that). This car is great if you maintain it properly.

I have no complaints from this vehicle. As a former RX-7 owner I knew what to expect from the rotary. The 8 is not the replacement for the 7. It is a sports car, but remains "civilized". I have had a single problem with the exhaust, which was covered under warranty. I expected a few issues being the first year of production and bringing the rotary back after 8-9 years. If you are whinny and do not like to pay attention to your vehicle, buy a Honda. This is a car for people who love cars, not for people who are easily inconvenienced. Check the oil, let it warm up, dont drive a rear wheel drive sports car in snow, 9k RPMs will use gas. Common sense stuff that seems to annoy people.

The ONLY negative characteristic this car possesses is its gas mileage. Phwew!

Cant find a car that is this much fun for $28,000. I can fit the kids in the back and my golf clubs in the trunk.

Its been 17 years since I had a sports car, almost forgot how much fun it was to drive one. Ok, ok, so there is some debate on whether its a sports car or not, but sure drives like one. Great styling too, and is a head turner. Hearing and seeing the rpm at 6000+ is just a music to my ears. Gas milage? Been having too much fun to notice, but am sure will notice it sooner or later.

The most affordable Sports Car in America. Fast, fun, and certainly gets the looks. The RENESIS rotary sound best between 6000 & 9500 rpms, and gives you the impression it is begging for more. 6 speed tranny is silky smooth.
