P5, not your fathers station wagon - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By satisfied owner - December 8 - 10:00 amA great car, fun to drive, nice to look at. I keep telling my wife a bought a station wagon, she says it is a sports car, who is right, maybe both of us. Some people say it could use more power, but for everyday driving it has more than enough.

Love My Protege5 - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By pciskowski - December 8 - 10:00 amThis is an excellent vehicle. I dont think it is underpowered like the press does. I think the styling is better than the Matrix or Vibe. I have removed the roof rack, and the ride, noise, and gas mileage improved considerably. I have noticed a rattle in the front passenger door. On the plus side, I find the seats to be very comfortable. Given the wheelbase, wheel and tires, and suspension, the ride is somewhat harsh but the handling is excellent. Note that the tires develop a slight flat spot after 24 hours and need 5 minutes of driving for the ride to smooth out, so dont judge the ride before that point. I would buy this vehicle again in a second!

Perfect! - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By Sporin - December 7 - 2:00 amWe are very happy with the car. It is the perfect combination of cost, capability and fun-to-drive. It gets plenty of looks, and there arent many around in my area so it has some exclusivity. There were a few car that I thought about waiting for.. the Matrix/Vibe, the SE-R Spec-V, and even the Altima. Im glad I didnt wait. Those cars have all come in at higher price points, or have been disapointing in some way. My Pro5 was $17.5k out the door, and I cant think of ANY car Id rather have at that price.

Still lovin my MP5 - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By gfree - December 3 - 6:10 pmI have had my black MP5 for over a month and I still love driving it. I have heard a lot of knocks against the HP, and I admit a little more would be good, but I like the 130hp, because it is more than the vehicle I had before so it is an upgrade for me. People have asked me what kind of car it is, and some are suprised when I tell them it is a Mazda Protege5. I have received lots of looks and lots of complements. This car has given me a renewed interest in driving.

Great Wagon - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By eflocco - December 1 - 10:00 amAt the time I need a new vehicle after mine was destroyed in an accident, it was the only foreign wagon available. After owning it for almost a year, Im even more certain I made the right choice.

Quick hatchback with a lot of room - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By Tetonman - November 14 - 2:00 amIve had the P5 for about 5 months now and really think it is a great little car. The engine is peppy and with the 5 speed is quick enough for most city and highway driving. Gas mileage is okay (around 27 mpg mixed driving). We have the sunroof and roof rack on and have never noticed the so called whistle like some others have, even going above 75 mph. We really like the room this car has. It is surprising just how much stuff can fit in the cargo area (similar to the Protege Sedan trunk in terms of surprise). We also liked the fact that we could put two car seats in with our seats back and travel in comfort for a 6 hour drive.

So Far So Good - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By emhawk77 - October 7 - 2:00 amI have had my PR5 for over 8 months now. I was in the market to trade in my awful, terrible, never buy one, Mercury Cougar. I wanted a used car, but after test driving the PR5, I was hooked. I wanted an automatic, but manual was all I could find. However, the manual is so fun and easy to drive, that I barely notice its not an automatic. If things go well with the car for through 60,000 miles, I may be a Mazda owner for life.

MazdaMeASAP - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By luv2drv - September 17 - 1:23 pmMazda is cleary the most under appreciated car company in the market. The Protege5 is in a class by itself for people who know they dont need 800 cubic-feet of space, love to drive (not ride) and can still appreciate a good looking example of automotive design (no snarling hood nostrals, bat-wing fins and exessive door ribs).

Awesome - 2002 Mazda Protege5
By SDTH - July 17 - 10:00 amJust purchased the Mazda "P-5" as we are calling it. We went for a new car and could not take our eyes off this baby. Used (2002), with 20,000 miles. Mica yellow and fun as all get out. A five minute test drive convinced us that this was our car. Just returned from a 1,900 mile road trip and the car performed exceptional in all aspects!
