Overview & Reviews
The Mazda 3 is an all-new economy sedan and hatchback that replaces the Protege in Mazda's lineup.
- Fun-to-drive character, stylish interior design, strong engines, hatchback utility.
- Ride might be too stiff for some, a few ergonomic quirks, tight rear legroom.

Talk about bang for the buck! - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By happyinthesw - November 29 - 10:00 amI originally started looking at only the "s" series, but they were in such short supply (especially the sedan model which I prefer) I eventually wondered over to the little brother version, the "I". Now I test drove both cars extensivley and the 12hp difference in the engines is truly not that noticable on the manual transmission models. The automatics did feel a bit less powerful (a very small bit). The back seats are not comfortable unless your about 52" or less, but the front seats are great for a big guy like me. You will really appreciate the amount of adjustments that are possible on the cars driver side!

Best Buy For The Money - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By peaceman - October 21 - 2:00 amFast, fun, and cheap!! Mazda came out with a great compact that feels like a sports car. The 3i engine with 148hp is fast enough and you can upgrade to an 3s with 160hp for an affordable price. The features and design is great. The dash has an awesome design. The sound system is good too.

Mazda 3 - Nice Ride - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By 3runner - October 21 - 2:00 amI compared features and drove every competing car including the Civic SI, Sentra SE Spec V, & Matrix. The 3 beat these going away. Its the total package of acceleration, handling, and good looks! Theres many other little niceties that are also pluses for this car. Theres not a better vehicle for <20K, Im sure.

Ticket Getter - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By Need 4 Speed - October 21 - 2:00 amPurhased after reading reviews. Being a "motorhead", I had a pretty good idea what was out there, and without the bump to 160-horses, I probably wouldnt have considered the 3. Also drove left over Proteges, which has entirely different feel. Whereas the Protege is flingable, the 3 feels more substantial. Bought for less than $500 over dealers invoice. The January issue of Car & Driver magazine provides a good review on this model. More comparable to the discontinued Prelude than the Civic or Matrix in its class and pulls as hard a a 330 Bimmer 0-60.

2 year long term test.. 60000 km! 5 speed - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By doomz78 - September 28 - 7:46 amAfter having this car for over 2 years and driving it quite a bit (60000km, about 32,000 miles) I have the dirt on this econo-machine: 1) I have had no mechanical problems. 2) The steering and suspension are as tight and as precise as the day I bought it. You almost take it for granted until you drive a different vehicle. Then you realize: Wow this Mazda 3 really handles! 0.87gs on the skidpad. R U kidding? At this price? 3) I have the 2.0 engine, MT, It has more power then anyone really needs. I drive 140kmh (85mph) every day on the 401 highway and no complaints. Fuel economy is average. 520km per tank. I drive it hard which doesnt help the numbers. 4) So far so good!

1st New Car - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By Dill - September 9 - 2:00 amAfter having researched this car I found that it was the best in its class. After having drove it, I found that its the best on the road. This car looks good, feels great, and is priced even better. I bought this car with all of the options available and I am very pleased with the results of each of them. I have no regrets about my purchase, and recommened this vehicle to anyone.

2.3 with 5-speed bliss! - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By Phun 4 U - September 9 - 2:00 am5-spd is smooth & fun to flick through the gears. Motor has a sweet spot at 4,000 RPM. I love to rev this baby! It begs to be pushed! Seats are firm and comfortable. I found myself blasting off a country road & onto a highway, changing lanes, and almost planting my front end into a police cruiser. This car is going to get me into trouble. I drove a bonneville before this. I felt age 55. Mazda3 makes me feel 25 (Im somewhere in between). Big improvement from the Protege (loud, buzzy & underpowered). Mazda3 looks great from almost all angles. This car cuts corners like a henkel carving knife. Fantastic BMW- like driving experience!
