This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, power sliding doors are an option for both the LX and ES trim levels. A towing package and a cargo organizer are two other new options. Also, an alarm and engine immobilizer are now part of a security package, and a cassette player is available on the ES trim level. The LX trim now rides on 16-inch wheels. Inside, floor and cargo mats are now standard on both trim levels, while outside, you'll see a new exhaust tip.

Pros:
  • Compact and maneuverable, confident handling manners, roll-down windows in the sliding doors.
Cons:
  • Limited maximum cargo capacity, lacks some features found in the other minivans.

  • brakes - 2003 Mazda MPV

Legroom is good for driver. 3rd fold- down seat is desirable. Brakes could be a lot better. They take much longer to bring van/wagon to a stop. I had a 97 Odyssey & brakes were great. Is that due to rear drums? ConsumerReports also listed brakes. The brakes react fine on my ES but it takes a lot more distance to stop and I find myself having to press harder. Of course I could start pressing them sooner, but in a quick-stop sutuation I wish theyd quicker.

  • minivan alternative to pork-mobiles - 2003 Mazda MPV

Our MPV has been wonderful. It is just what we needed. Not too big (unlike pork-mobiles disguised as minivans), and not too small (more than adequate storage capacity). The engine is quiet and accelerates quickly. Interior comfort, versatility and quality are first-rate. Exterior finish is top quality as well. Overall, a very versatile and balanced minivan that should appeal to anyone looking for a respectable powertrain, above-average passenger & cargo capacity, top-notch safety features, interior comfort and excellent reliability.

  • What a relief! - 2003 Mazda MPV

What a relief to be out from under my Dodge Caravan! Lemon with a capital "L." The MPV is wonderful. Quick and responsive. Great braking even in slimey conditions. Second air/heating system that comes with winter package is a great option and well worth it!

  • Fun family van - 2003 Mazda MPV

I first wanted to wait for the new 04 Quest for its stylish look and peppy engine but the lack of lateral adjustable 2nd row and the 2nd row window that dont go down made me go for the MPV 03. Its a very pleasant and fun van to drive with a very good level of trimming and material quality on the ES model.

  • A minivan well worth the price - 2003 Mazda MPV

My wife and I spent 6 months researching minivans for our next purchase. Given all factors of cost, reliability, features, etc. What we like about the vehicle is the comfortable seating along with the instrument panel. Another nice plus is the ability to control the radio/CD player from the steering wheel. The minivan handles like a car and grips the road. The MPV is quiet on the highways and provides a nice ride at interstate speeds. We got a great deal which included a $2000 rebate and close to deal cost. The only serious contender was the Honda Odessey. We could not justify spending $3000-4000 more on the Honda name.

  • PUPPIES HUMAN DRIVER REVIEW - 2003 Mazda MPV

I LOVE MY NEW VAN FOR MY "PUPPIES". IT IS FUN TO DRIVE AND HAS MORE SPEED THAN I THOUGHT. THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE WITH THIS ONE AND THE TOYOTA OR NISSAN IS UNBELIEVABLE, AND THIS VAN IS M U C H NICER.

  • I Love this van - 2003 Mazda MPV

I love the versatility of the sliding middle seat and the fold-flat back seat. The ride is smooth and quiet. The kids love the ability to open the side-door windows which really airs-out the van on a nice day. Weve had the van in for service once for a jerky transmission and everyone was very helpfull. If you want a quality van that doesnt cost an kings ransom, this is the one for you!

I bought an ES in early June to replace my 93 MPV. Got a deal with $2k rebate, $2.1k Ford "S-Plan" and another $500 S-plan bonus with no more room left to negotiate after all that. My wife ejoys the minivan because it is quick with responsive handling and a nice stereo. I am probably biased since I currently own a 95 Protege LX and 03 Protege 5 and use to own an 86 RX-& GLX and 93 MPV. I have listed lots of good things below. A few other things of note include great leather seats and rear heating with the "4- seasons" option. Another thoughtful item is the left side sliding door does not open when you are gassing up.

Compared the MPV (ES) vs. Honda Ody. Fell in love with the Mazda & wouldnt trade it for the world. Sporty, fun to drive and loaded with features. Great vehicle!
