This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new model last year, the Mazda CX-9 cruises into 2008 with a heavily revised engine that increases output by 10 horsepower and 21 pound-feet of torque. A blind-spot warning system also debuts on the Grand Touring trim level.

Pros:
  • Strong performance and handling, stylish and roomy cabin, easy access to third row, solid build quality, high crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Long rear doors can be hard to open in tight parking spaces, 20-inch wheels give a stiff ride on concrete freeways, stingy interior storage.

  • Excellent vehicle for the money - 2008 Mazda CX-9

Originally I was set on a CX-7, but after I sat in a CX-9 in the showroom, I fell in love. I was very impressed how much rear legroom it had and the 3-zone climate control. Then I drove it, and the first thing I noticed was how much quieter it was than the CX-7 and how smooth the enigine and transmission were. It also doesnt feel like youre driving a large SUV. My dogs fit in the back with room to spare. I went from a Celica to this, so cornering, parking and gas consumption are much different, but I knew that it would be.

  • A total surprise! - 2008 Mazda CX-9

I have been looking for the perfect large SUV to replace our 04 Chevy Venture that was totaled about three weeks ago, and found it in the CX-9. At first look it is sexy but seemingly too small for my family of 6. But I took one for a test drive to my wife, and we fell in love. It was a base sport model and I was still impressed. The interior design is a 10+, handling is great. I pushed the engine out to about 5000 or 6000 rpm before shifting in manual mode and the tranny was still silky smooth. I had to check the readout to be sure that I even shifted gears. All of my kids fit surprisingly well with two boosters and one car seat.

I had an 03 Murano before this vehicle and I have to say that this is quite a better vehicle than the Murano. From the looks, to the performance, to the saftey features, this is one of the best SUVs out there. Roomy cabin makes it easy to deal with children in car seats. Plenty of room for large adults (vertically and horizontally!). Outstanding vehicle, outstanding value.

  • Mazda surprises us - 2008 Mazda CX-9

Bought this new a year ago. Driven it to California and back (Dallas). Really enjoy the drive, interior room, fuel mileage, nav system, and performance. Engine performs nicely. Rear entertainment system is nice: kids really like it. Powered rear door/hatch is really handy. A/C is powerful. 3rd row seats are split, and easy to bring up and put down. This is our first Mazda and were really impressed with this vehicle. Ive hit speeds up to 85mph and the CX9 handled well.

  • New but have a good feelin about it... - 2008 Mazda CX-9

We are still under 1k miles so I havent let loose on it however, I can tell it is going to be fun once I do. 30-70 mph acceleration is fantastic. We shopped for months for the perfect car and we feel we got it with the CX-9. Did we need the back up cam and navigation system? Not really, but we really wanted the Blue and it was the only one available. There is plenty of room for us and our new baby. The only downside for me is that the seats are a bit narrow in the front, however, I am 64" 290 lbs. This is the first vehicle I dont have to put the seat ALL the way back!

Even though Im not a professional reviewer, I see the CX-9 as a step closer to versatility in a vehicle. Love to drive it and is in the top 4 most powerful engines in or around its class.

  • Great 7 Passenger CUV - 2008 Mazda CX-9

This purchase was for my wife. She was a minivan driver and I have always liked sport sedans. We were both ready to leave our minivan of seven years, but with 3 growing children ages 5 to 12, we needed to maintain 3 rows and 7 passenger capability. Since we have owned 2 previous Mazdas (I currently own the MZ3S) we were very excited about the CX-9. The CX-7 was nice but too small for our needs. This CX-9 fit our needs perfectly. Although a fairly large vehicle at about 200" long and almost 5,0000 lbs, it drives like a sporty sedan on steroids. Acceleration is brisk and the ride is fairly smooth. The BSMS helps to minimize blind spots. Overall we are pleased with this vehicle.

  • Whats Not To Love? - 2008 Mazda CX-9

Got my new CX-9 about a week ago and am still learning about all the wonderful features. It has a firm, sporty ride that doesnt insulate the driver from the road. While visibility is very good for an SUV, the Blind Spot Monitors are superb. Smooth shifting transmission couples with a powerful responsive engine. Interior fit and finish is first rate.

  • Head and Shoulders above the rest - 2008 Mazda CX-9

We are absolutely thrilled with our GT CX 9 . We compared to several others-- Lexus, Acura, Toyota, Honda ect and this is by far the best value for the money! The Navigation, Bluetooth are easy to use. The interior finishes are classy and comfortable. All in all a real headturner! It is our first Mazda and definitely would purchase all over again! Best car Ive ever owned---from a former Lexus, Honda and Toyota owner. I am converted to Mazda s . Fun to drive and a smooth ride!
