This Year's Model Updates:

The 2010 Kia Soul is an all-new four-door hatchback/wagon with avant-garde styling and many customizable features.

Pros:
  • Loads of available features, highly customizable, user-friendly controls, ample passenger space, surprisingly fun to drive, low price, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Limited cargo room versus competitors, noisy and busy highway ride, unrefined manual transmission, silly trim level names.

  • Not a good MPG - 2010 Kia Soul

When we love the looks and the fun ride, the reason why we got it was: 1) the roomy back (which is very good compared to others) 2) the miles-per- gallon (MPG). We are yet to see the advertised 26 or higher. We are lucky if we get close to 24. In addition to front seat is way too stiff. This is definitely a city commuter and nothing more. Yes, a fun ride, but a bit uncomfortable and not as economic as promised (in the city). Not to be negative, but more of a reality check. The glare on the front glass is very uncomfortable. The light brown reflects the entire dash into the front window. I have seen this in other small cars I have rented. Sound system? Back speakers are NOT good at all.

  • Soul could become an icon like the Mini - 2010 Kia Soul

Our plus automatic is a month old. Its a small car which drives like a much bigger car or a SUV. Interior space is amazing. Engine is quick enough for California traffic, and the transmission is well made but 4 speeds are not enough. If they would place the 2.4 liter engine and a 6-speed auto with paddle shifters in the Soul, it could become an icon among "hot hatches" like the Mini Cooper, Mazda Speed 3, or he VW GTI. I enjoy driving it more than our V6 Accord. As a former Honda tech I think the engine bay has lots of space and it should be easy to work on. I can do an oil change on the Soul at home without raising it with a jack. And it doesnt have the drive-by-wire throttle - no runaway.

  • KIA, who would have known Id buy one? - 2010 Kia Soul

The only thing getting me kinda mad is; when I grab to open the door, there is no grip on the handle and its kinda made for small hands I guess. So if I dont think about it, the door handle always slip out of my grip.. For the rest, this car is full equipped + it has a 5 yrs bumper to bumper warranty, so I say, let it break. But Im sure it wont since its 5 yrs B-to-B.

  • HAPPY WITH SOUL - 2010 Kia Soul

Ive been driving cushy Volvos for the last 13 yrs. So this is different for me. Cushy its not. The seats are quite firm. Being a beefy guy, I find the seat bottom width a tad too narrow. Then again, Im used to very wide leather seats. Other than that, fit seems to be very good. Much peppier than I had thought. No problems getting up to speed or merging on highways. Controls are very good and easy to use "intuitive". Looked at the Scion XB. Way too much money. The cube is just wierd. My kids love this car. I think the lighted speaker is dumb. Am I supposed to dance to it? Maybe at 56 Im just too old to get it. So far very pleased with my decision.

  • the jurys still out - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

After searching and researching for a small car for several months I got a soul +. Had it a week and the car was pulling to the right, took it to the dealership for repair and they gave me the run around, took it back in a week same problem rotated the tires; which seems to have helped (till the tires wear) bought accessories from dealership and they didnt fit the model had them install them. Attached a bike rack on the back and that was not good, car doesnt seem to be that strongly built ( for bike rack @least). Im not sure if I might have made a mistake or just gotten a lemon by buying this car before getting the bugs out. Thus the jurys still out.......

  • scratches driving me to drink - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

I love this little car. Ive had it for 6 months but the interior looks like its 10 years old. you cant breath on these doors without scratching them. Its got 9000 miles on it,and I only had to replace the fuel pump. I have a case pending on the door problem since January and the problem is still not resolved, they keep telling me theyre working on it. Good luck to anybody who has kids and buys this car, the interior will look 10 years old in 1 week!

  • I got SOUL - 2010 Kia Soul

After owning the car for 9 months i can say I am still in love with this vehicle. Im 63" and fit very comfortably in here. All the gadgets are a blast to use.

  • TOO MUCH PLASTIC - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

Although the exterior is a plus, the interior has way too much plastic. There is no cushioning on the arm rest or console, Wish the window sill was wider to rest you elbow and arm. Lastly, I get a strong reflection from the dash on the windshield and in sunny Arizona it is quite a distraction. Driving with sunglasses makes it hard to see the instrument cluster which is recessed quite a bit. Otherwise it is a neat little car. Time will tell about reliability.

  • "One Smiling Soul" - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

A car you can not help but have fun driving! I wanted a car as fun as my old mazda p5 who recently met her demise. The new mazda 3 looks like one of the "killer Clowns from outer space " one ugly vehicle. I checked out other 5 doors but $ always reared its head. So no brainer on features the Kia won. After the test drive I was hooked. It drives like a little sports car but with room for 3 golfers and their gear. The molten red Sport is a head turner. Every morning now I can not wait to drive with a smile and little more Soul.

  • Great for a Korean Car - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

Put 3200 miles on the car in a month. I do a lot of driving for work all over NJ. Its got great handling and I get 31 mpg on a mix of city and highway, mostly highway. It does significantly better with highway at speeds of 65 mph. It starts to really eat the gas at speeds above 70 or 75. But hey, thats all cars. Design is good with plenty of nifty storage areas. Nice look to interior but yes, it does scuff. Id ask for an interior light directly over the trunk area. Speakers only light up in front seating area. As to engine power it is a little slow to respond sometimes, but completely reasonable for its size. No mechanical problems thus far. Feels pretty solid for Korean. Cheap!
