This Year's Model Updates:

The Sorento is an all-new SUV from Kia. Larger and more powerful than the pint-size Sportage (which is expected to return for 2004 after a 2003 hiatus, by the way), the Sorento straddles the emerging middle ground between small SUVs and midsize SUVs. And it does so while offering interested buyers true off-road ability. Key competitors are the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Liberty, the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander.

Pros:
  • Great value, class-leading warranty coverage, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability.
Cons:
  • Engine needs more power, subpar fuel economy, seat upholstery could stand improvement.

  • My second Kia Sorento - 2003 Kia Sorento

I bought my first Kia Sorento in January. I was very close to buying a Highlander. So close that I had put a deposit on one, but cancelled the purchase because I thought the Highlander was not enough car for the money. It was $32,800. The next week I test drove the Sorento. The car gave a better ride, was better looking and best of all was $7,000 less expensive than the Highlander. We have enjoyed the Sorento so much that when we needed another car for my wife we went back to the dealer and bought another one. Now we have a black Sorento EX and a white Sorento EX.

THIS VEHICLE IS NOT ONLY AFFORDABLE BUT THE FEATURES IS SUPERB NOT A WHOLE LOT OF PLASTIC PARTS TO BREAK. THE ONE THING THAT KIA SHOULD HAVE OFFERED WAS MORE HORSEPOWER AT 197 IT IS NOT AS QUICK AS MOST IN ITS CLASS BUT IT OUT WEIGHTS EVERYTHING ELSE ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY! THAT YOU CANNOT BE A PRICE TAG ON AND WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY AND REALIABILITY IT OULD RATHER TAKE THAT THAN THE EXTRA HOSEPOWER. KIA HAS A WINNER ON THEIR HAND ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS GIVE IT MORE HOSEPOWER THEN ALL BUYER WILL SAY WOW!! WHAT A SUV

  • Great Vehicle to Drive - 2003 Kia Sorento

Ive owned my Sorento for a year now and have just a little over 16,000 miles on it. I have truly enjoyed this vehicle. It is great around town and on the long trips to Florida. I have not had to return to the dealer for any problems. The price of the Sorento was excellent. Performance is great. Plenty of room for the wife and three kids. The gas mileage is comparable to the mileage that I was getting with the Explorer I previouslyowned and is more comfortable. If and when it becomes time to purchase a new vehicle the Kia Sorento will be at the top of the list. Thank you Kia for building a well built and affordable vehicle.

At 64" and 290lbs most cars dont "fit" - the Kia Sorent is easier to get in to and provides more shoulder and leg room than the Toyota Highlandr and the Nissan Pathfinder. The interior and exterior styling puts the others in the background. The engine performance and ride quality are excellant. Assembly "finish" and "fit" are excellant. I spent a lot of time researching various SUVs, testing the fit and looking at the quality of construction - the Kia Sorento meets or exceeds even the Lexus and Mercedes, and wont take you to the cleaners trying to pay for it.

  • Great vehicle for almost 5 years - 2003 Kia Sorento

We bought our Sorento new in May of 2003. In 56K miles, weve never had a problem. Only routine maint. and a brake job, along with one set of tires.

  • Wow, what a deal - 2003 Kia Sorento

I love my Sorento. I am so impressed, its the luxury of the Lexus, RX300, the off-road of a Jeep for thousands less and a better warranty. The quality is impressive for the price, and well see about long term quality. But so far, Its worth the money.

  • The verdict is still out... - 2003 Kia Sorento

Had the SUV for a week know. This is my second Sorento...when I bought a 4x2 version I was told that ALL Sorentos came with a limited slip rear. This is not the case! Only 4x4 versions come with the limited slip. Im pleased with the look, power, and standard features. Im a little cautious about the reliability of the vehicle...Ive had the drivers side window stop working...which was fixed by turning off the ignition and restarting. Also have squeaks where the back passenger seats connect to the release for folding down. The clock also runs slow....about 6 minutes over a weeks time. This was a big step for me...my first import. Im really relying on this warranty!

I decided to buy this Sorento as a family car. I didnt waste much time to make my decision. I just saw the TV commericals, went to the auto show, test drive and did some research from edmunds. I like the styling. It has a Lexus RX300 look. It is very comfortable for rear passengers. Every buttons are soft touch and easy to use. Best price for a fully loaded SUV.

  • Best Vehicle Ive ever owned - 2003 Kia Sorento

I bought my 2003 Kia Sorento 4x4 automatic brand new in 2003. Im the original owner and as of this posting has $120K miles. Ive taken great care of the car. The engine and transmission suspension, steering have been solid as a rock. Ive only had a few issues. It will no longer shift into 4x4, which I think a control module went bad, but it still operates in 4x2 mode. One engine sensor needed replacing the fuel temperature senors which I replaced myself. Other than that it has been the best vehicle Ive ever owned. Its considerably fast for 190 HP, roomy, and feels very safe and controlled in the rain! Get one if you can!

  • Perfect Experience - 2003 Kia Sorento

We had a bad experience with a truck dealership, and had bought a 2003 Kia Spectra GSX previously so back to the Kia dealer we went for our next vehicle! The sales people were excellent--and the vehicle is top notch! It rides like a dream--very smooth, and it handles like a car with a tight turning radius. Im used to driving my Spectra and the transition from that to the Sorento was seamless. I wish the gas mileage was better--but for what you get--(all the standard "extras") its worth every penny!
