This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, the Sedona has a revised grille with a larger logo. The EX model has a new alloy wheel design, while the LX has redesigned plastic wheel covers. A center tray table with cupholders is now standard on both EX and LX.

Pros:
  • Excellent value, roomy interior with lots of cupholders and storage bins, solid build quality, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Below-average gas mileage, missing a few key minivan features, potentially expensive to repair in minor collisions.

Nothing too fancy, but reliable and a good value.

This van definitely competes with the upper classmen in this field and would do so even at a higher price. I would guess this is the best car for the money bar none. Loaded with standard features, handles well for a van, very peppy and quiet engine accompanied by a smooth shifting transmission. Looks good in and out. Would not hesitate to buy this car again.

  • I will buy another! - 2004 Kia Sedona

Purchased our 2004 KIA Sedona LX new near the end of 2004. Lots of extended highway driving when we go on trips, and the van performs well. 20-22mpg on the highway if we keep it under 70mph. I have replaced the original tires (56K miles), and windshield (rock cracked it). No other work outside of normal scheduled maintenance (fluid changes, tire rotation). Will need to have the front brakes serviced for the first time when 60K miles rolls around. Interior has worn well, except for the drivers side floor where the carpet is dirty. Van is driven every day, regardless of weather, so it gets quite dirty in the winter. Once this van is paid off, Ill be purchasing another KIA!

We discovered that the steel lines that run to the heater rusted out just after the vehicle ran out of warrenty. The customer service team at Kia Corporation was terrible to deal with. We had documentation that the part started to rust while within warranty and the service department at the dealership even confirmed this, but they still would not consider a compromise on repairs.

I am in UK, and have a 12/03 registered ex Dealer demonstrator 2004 model Sedona L. Unlike the US a 2.9 diesel engine is available and the fuel consumption on this is 30-34 UK gall per mile. Engine is not speedy but does have grunt. From what I can see from sites/reviews the main issue is quality control in Korea, also possibly does not like certain driving styles (heavy braking rather than anticipation..etc.) We wait to see how it goes over the years. A lot of vehicle for the money but the jury is out over longevity.

  • I Love My Kia - 2004 Kia Sedona

We bought this van used with 49,000 mi. All we have done is oil changes, tires, and brake pads. and also a front wheel bearing. It has about 74,000 mi now and I cant complain one bit about the maintenance . It all comes under wear and tear. I love it but it is to big for us now so I would go to something smaller. At least when you step on the brakes you stop.

  • Cheap Imitation - 2004 Kia Sedona

I selected the kia Sedona for price, shortness (for city parking), and the 10 year warranty. The service department is awful and the dealership didnt keep its word on the deal. I cant drive with visor down, it was poorly designed. Also, the body was poorly designed, a kid leaned against the front fender and it "popped" in creating a dent! On the plus side - it has great pick-up, looks good (even if its a cheap knock-off of American cars). My greatest dissatisfaction is with the service shop and the lies of the dealership (like free loaner car when my kia is in the shop overnight).

  • Moms minivan - 2004 Kia Sedona

Kids love the multiple power connections in the rear (one at third seat, one in trunk). Kids love having "picnics" on the back of the 2nd row captains chairs. 2nd row seats are easy to remove. Temp reading for outside temp is not reliable. Gas reading (distance to empty) is a nice feature.

  • We walked away from a high speed crash - 2004 Kia Sedona

I do not normally write reviews but I do read them all the time for any item that I consider buying. I thought it was time that I wrote one. Husband, 2 kids and I (3 months pregnant) were hit from behind in our Kia Sedona by an SUV. We were on a highway traveling about 65 mph and were hit by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel, had accelerator to the floor and hit us at 80 mph plus. Kids were in the middle row and not a scratch or bump on them. Third row was intact and untouched. If my kids had been in a regular car, they would have been seriously injured or killed. Keep your family safe and put them in a minivan or SUV. Thanks Kia. That 5 star safety rating saved our lives.
