This Year's Model Updates:

Finally replacing the boxy Cherokee that has been in production since 1984, the handsome all-new 2002 Jeep Liberty serves as the affordable SUV in Jeep's lineup. Borrowing styling cues from the 1997 Jeep Dakar and 1998 Jeepster concept vehicles, the Liberty is available in two trim levels with your choice of two- or four-wheel drive, a four- or six-cylinder engine and a manual or automatic transmission.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "car-like" as most of its competitors.

I love the style of my jeep liberty. i use to have road noise but cured that with less aggressive tires, when i bought it it had new tires but had aggressive thread on the tires i purchased from firestome leamans pathmakers tires and noise went away and still rough enough for off roading,i am 6 4 lots head room which is what i love about it and plenty of leg room but not side to side i do feel a little cramped sometimes in the seats and the center counsel and door just use to a explorer i guess where i had more side to side room, wish there where lights to shine on the floor and glove box. i have 76,000 miles on this jeep bought with 59,000 lost a power steering pump thats it.

  • Jeep Libert, One Tough Mother of a SUV - 2002 Jeep Liberty

I just recently purchased my Jeep Liberty and I look forward everyday to driving it. It is as much fun on road as it is off. I recommend buying only 4x4 though. Why buy a 4x2 Jeep? Thats like a three legged horse. Anyways, the 4cyl has plenty of power at 150hp. The only trick is to shift at 3000rpm or higher. Overall, I am ecstatic about owning my Jeep Liberty. Much better than my old truck. I almost forgot. The stereo system was suprisingly great. I dont need to add anything except a CD changer.

This Jeep has a great interior, and I find the seats very comfortable. Lots of interior room, good power, great stereo. Havent heard any squeaks or rattles, and havent had one problem in 4 months. It looks great, it drives great in snow, and it makes me smile each time I get in.

  • Surprisingly Good - 2002 Jeep Liberty

I bought the car used in august 2012, It had 150K+ miles on it I dont remember. At first I just needed a 4x4 in the winter in Spokane because the road can get bad. With no snow tires and basically all in part time 4x4 it handled flawlessly. Everything was perfect except for some creak in the driver door but hey. I didnt much care for the car but time and time again it blows me away. Infinity speakers, roomy and stylish inside and out. and Reliable. I even took it off road and I was impressed. have 170k in a few weeks and still strong. Got 12mpg in city at first but with K&N stock filter upgrade, new spark plugs, oil change and Seafoam It went to 15 1/2 mpg and over 21 on the HWY!

  • Wrecked - 2002 Jeep Liberty

Unfortunately, I just had a pretty significant accident in my Jeep. Almost $10k to repair. I work in insurance and just knew I would going to hurt the next day. I handle multiple claims daily with much less damage and the passengers are very sore. Guess what!?!? Not even a spot of pain for me and my passenger! With the amount of damage, that is a miracle. I dont care what crash ratings say or anything. This vehicle took great care of us.

  • 02 Jeep, Best First Car Ever! A Must Buy!!!!!!! - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Seriously this is my first car and i have to say that i love it! Treats me great! Bought it about 5 months ago with 126,000 miles on it and havnt looked back. Nothing needed replaced except the o2 cencer which the guy replaced for me so that was an easy fix of course. But all in all it is a wonder full car with great features, only thing that sucks is gas milage but hey i bought it so i have to live with it!:D

  • ChiliRific Jeep!! - 2002 Jeep Liberty

We bought this truck for ICS chili cookoff trips. I added a Wilderness rack by Garvin, (Rocky Road Outfitters) to add more room. I love the on road (55100 miles) and the off road capabilities of this truck. The full- frame/unibody construction makes it tight and strong, yet it can flex better than ANY SUV in its class. The future of my Liberty is bright. There will be an ARB bull bar bumper and winch added for sure. Maybe a Rocky Road OTT 2.5" suspension Lift and some real tires (see below). Anyway, we will be keeping this Jeep for many many years! BTW... I get 20mpg fully loaded, with a Wilderness rack on the roof, when I am on the highway.

  • Reliable and high mileage best car ever - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I bought my Liberty in 2007 and it has been the best car I have ever owned. When I bought the Jeep it had 100K on it but I was on a limited budget and purchased an extended warranty. I never even had to use the warranty. I have not had 1 problem with this car! I have put over 40k on my Jeep and it is still more reliable than any car Ive ever owned. I wouldnt be scared to drive this car anywhere I had to go on the spur of the moment. If youre nervous of how many miles a Liberty can get on it- I am at 143k and still going strong!!!
