Overview & Reviews
The 2006 Jeep Commander is a new seven-passenger SUV based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee's basic platform.
- Three available engines, excellent off-road ability, balanced handling, simple controls.
- Low-grade interior materials, minimal legroom for third-row seat, mediocre cargo capacity, poor gas mileage with the big V8s.

Awesome, especially for the money! - 2006 Jeep Commander
By Scott - September 29 - 10:56 amWe just picked up our Jeep on 3/25. The loaded up base V6 is fine, but the Limited creature comforts are nice and its not that much more money. We shopped vs used LR3s and GX470s - both nice as well. However, when you take into account the 0% financing and that fact you are getting "new styling" that wont be outdated soon, it makes it very affordable vs other competitive used $30-35K SUVs. It looks sharp and its very comfortable - and quiet! Dont believe dealers who wont discount with the 0%. We got it well below invoice with the 0%. MPG is a drawback, but we really like it overall.

Great family vehicle - 2006 Jeep Commander
By Estelle - September 22 - 3:00 amEnjoy all the space in the front and mid rows. Great for when family is in town to have the third row. Would have liked a little more space behind the third row when the seats are up. Best handling mid to large side SUV I have driven.

WOW What A Ride.. and SAFE - 2006 Jeep Commander
By Bette - August 28 - 2:23 amHad a 1999 Jeep Sahara. When I traded it in, only had 1170 miles (no typo error). Had a great fear of driving except for dirt roads. Got the Commander 2 weeks ago and havent stopped driving since. I feel so safe in this car. I thought the fear was all in my head, never thinking I didnt feel safe in the car. I love driving again and all fear is gone.

Fun to drive - 2006 Jeep Commander
By TonyHorn - August 15 - 7:46 amExcept for the gas mileage, Im totally in love with my Commander. It handles great in any condition, and it just feels like a luxurious vehicle on the inside. I love the way it looks on the outside...not cutesy or overly "tough" like the Hummers. I did have to take it in twice already, though. First was to fix the whistling noise, it was a something about the seal of the front windshield, and was done for free, and the back windshield wiper broke because of a cheap plastic part. Be careful with the back wiper...it breaks easily if you pull it out to change the blade like any other wiper. Overall, I love my Jeep, but if gas keeps going up I may have to get a cheap fuel efficient car.

Great Product - 2006 Jeep Commander
By Clarke - June 26 - 9:30 pmThis isnt my first JEEP product, nor my last. I have owned Comanche, Cherokee 4X4 (and still own a great little `97 Country) and two late model Grand Cherokee Laredos. All have had the venerable 4.0L inline six to pull my 24ft offshore boat. This one has the 4.7L V8 which makes a ton of torque and gets much better fuel economy than any of the old sixes did. I have never been unhappy with my JEEPS; they have been extremely reliable and have never failed me.

Great Car - 2006 Jeep Commander
By NHVT - May 13 - 3:46 amI love it. It has been a great vehicle so far. The gas mileage is what I expected. The extra room is appreciated and the overall feel is classic Jeep at its best!

Great Vehicle - Glad I bought it - 2006 Jeep Commander
By Vince - April 24 - 1:13 amLet somebody else pay for the depreciation. When my $40K plus Chevy Avalanche was totalled by an 18 yr old slamming into my wife, I knew I wanted another 4x4. A new Avalanche was simply too expensive. After trading my interim used car, I found the 2006 Commander (certified Pre-Owned)at a local dealer. Getting it was a very smart decision. Very comfortable, gas mileage for the 3.7 liter is exactly as stated. Power is good. Design is great. I dont tow anything, and filling the SUV with 6 people proved no problem. Having the base model (doesnt mean stripped) gives me a clean pallet to customize without the huge new car or dealer premiums. I love this thing.
