i bought a used commander... its only 2006.... i have had to pay out 1000 for the software since it is under the cup holder and it gets the software wet..... i feel jeep should pay me back for the design.... my mercedes transmission wiring has shorted out. they said this should be a recall since they order this part alot. which cost me another 1000. i feel you should give me some of the money back since both of these parts have some recalls... i dont have much money single mom and all....

  • Leaky Commander - 2006 Jeep Commander

I am very disappointed with the design and quality of certain aspects of this vehicle. Other than the faulty water pump at 10,000 miles, the Service 4WD message popping up in the dash display, leaky rear brake light assembly.... The worst problem is the leaky sunroof ... leading to stereo damage. The car has been back and forth to the dealership due to the above problems as well as the water leaking from the sunroof area. As I am writing this, my wife is taking the Commander back to the dealership FOR THE 4th TIME ... The first 2 times for a leak on the drivers side .. The last time there was standing water at the front pass. floor. This time water is dripping onto the mid console/seats.

  • Follower, not a Commander - 2006 Jeep Commander

2006 Commander, Limited, Hemi, DVD and navi. 27 mo/45,000 mi lease. Looks are deceiving, reliability is not. Thankfully it is leased, goes back in Sept 2008. Leaky sunroof, broken starter, broken heater/AC blower (twice), bad windshield seal, 4 warped brake rotors (no trailing), factory paint drips here and there. Dealer service is average at best. Dealer refused to turn/replace the 4 warped brake rotors (wear item beyond 36,000 mi but within extended warranty). Goodyear turned for $150 as opposed to dealers $450 fee! Vehicle looks good (black, chrome wheels, etc), reasonably comfortable, lots of Hemi power, DVD and Navi are good (Honda Navi better). Needs larger fuel tank and luggage capacity.

  • Windshield noise & engine quits - 2006 Jeep Commander

Has been at the dealer 5 times for wind noise coming thru the windshield at high speeds. Applying for the Lemon Law to have Jeep replace the vehicle. Motor has cut off several times, taken to the dealer twice.

  • Chysler never again - 2006 Jeep Commander
    By -

I bought this Jeep in August of 06 and all weve had are problems. The brake system had about 12k on them and already needed all new routers and brakes. It has not been a year yet and I need all new brakes and routers again. They tell me it must be my wifes driving. We have owned many cars and trucks in the past 15 years and have never had this problem. The sunroof leaks and yes there is a whistling sound when the wind hits the Jeep in certain ways. I will never buy a Chrysler again!

  • Cheap for a reason - 2006 Jeep Commander
    By -

What we dont like about the Jeep is the fuel economy, sound system, climate system, and reliability. With mixed city/highway miles we average 14-15mpg which is what the vehicle is rated for in city-only driving. 250-300 miles at most per fill-up -The climate system has been replaced yet the floor vents never shut off no matter the setting. -The sound system has too much bass even when completely turned down. -After the transmission fluid was flushed twice, the car still had problems shifting so the transmission was replaced around 30k after arguing with the dealership. -Both of the oxygen sensors failed before 60k miles and the whole exhaust had to be removed to replace them.

  • Concerned - 2006 Jeep Commander

I bought my Commander new in Jan. 07 and have had problems with the window trim that the dealership cant seem to fix. I have had a few other problems with the rotors causing vibration, window not going up, back tail lights leaking, drivers rear door lock not unlocking and it rides like it is going to fall apart. For some reason the dealership always seems to not find a problem and I am tired of brining it in.

  • 2006 Commander is a dangerous vehicle - 2006 Jeep Commander
    By -

While I love the looks of this SUV, it is an unreliable and dangerous vehicle. We have had an excessive number of transmission issues, and 4wd issues which have been very inconvenient. Last Sat. though, while on the freeway going 75, our Commander downshifted and went into 4wd low, redlined the motor, and scrubbed off about 40 MPH. I was lucky that we were not hit by cars behind us. I am looking for any other experiences like this. I will never put my family back into this coffin on wheels! Protect your family. If you are having any issues with the drivetrain, it will most likely lead to this type of situation. This is just one of the many problems we have had with this hunk on tin. Its junk
