Overview & Reviews
After receiving significant upgrades last year, the Sonata receives only minor changes this year. Among these are a battery-saver feature (in the event that any of lights are left on); illuminated window switches; a 12-volt power point in the trunk; and electronic, rather than cable-operated, releases for the trunk lid and fuel door. Additionally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup in previous years, so the Sonata's four-cylinder is now rated at 138 horsepower (down from 149) and its V6 is rated at 170 (down from 181), though the engines themselves are unchanged.
- Excellent warranty, stylish sheet metal, pleasant highway ride, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
- Noisy four-cylinder engine, some cheap interior bits.

Could have been better - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By Marion - September 1 - 8:33 pmHad a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo that that the ripe old age of 13 years reliably got me to Texas from Michigan, I love the classy look of this car, but I dont really like the Hyundai dealers that can never find issues that I tell them it has. There is something wrong with the electrical system, the car doesnt unlock at times, all the lights in and out went out one day when I was at the stop light and magically came back on when I pressed the gas pedel, I have had the battery checked all ok, drove the car to a store and had to have it jumped when I came back out?, I dont know if I can trust it. Hyundai is not a big help. To many issues for not being very old. There is more but no room

not bad for the money - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By pleasedfornow - July 22 - 10:00 amThe poor mans jag. Nice exterior look. The engine is slow on pick up but once it gets going the engines power is very respectable. The seats comfort and the position of the stearing wheal need improoving. I cant last more than 3 hours in that car without cramping up. I wouldnt want to take that car across the country.

Great Little Sedan - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By portknoxxa - November 1 - 10:00 amive had my sonata gls for 1.5 years, and im totally impressed with the car.the list of standard features on the car are incredible.i wanted a larger car with a v-6,sunroof,etc.and of course a good warranty.i looked at the new altima and it would have been about $24,000, same for the accord and stratus. my sonata fully loaded w/o leather and abs stickered @$18,500 w/sunroof.the car has a very good ride at high speeds and minimal vibration, the v-6 to me is better than i thought it would be,passing power is great and acceleration is good.i highly reccomend this car to anyone.

Invisible Car - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By LisaLuke - January 31 - 1:59 pmI love my car, but it seems to be "Invisible" to other drivers. Have been HIT BY OTHER cars 4 times and at least 12 "very near misses" all in broad daylight with lights (including fog) ON! ALL claimed "Never saw my car"! Original cost of car: $19500. Total repairs: $24800. Very expensive to repair!!! My car is black with chrome. I love driving my Sonata and I had planned on keepting it for a long time, but I now plan to get rid of it. Its too dangerous! I would like a new Sonota (white this time), but I HATE the new body style! Ill be looking at other brands... Toyota, maybe.

Not Bad - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By Ken C - November 24 - 2:00 amPurchased a new 2003 Sonata LX V6 in Dec 2002. Have put 3,000 miles on it and it runs great. I agree with others, this cars is not as polished as a Toyota or Honda. We useally buy larger America cars. The Sonata matches them in ride but has less power. The trunk space looked good when we bought the car. But on our first trip found the rear speakers and other stuff really cut into the useable trunk space. Overall, we are very happy with the car and feel it is a great value.

Sonata Magic - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By C.J.Pampalone - October 8 - 10:00 amSo far I have owned this car for one month and I truly enjoy the feel and excitment of driving this vehicle. I really enjoy the fact and comfort of having the 10 years or 100,000 mile warranty that comes with the Hyundai product.

SONATA, MORE THAN JUST A HYUNDAI - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By ap20stuff - August 31 - 2:00 amThe new Sonata is a beautiful, well- appointed, and AFFORDABLE car. With all the features of a car that costs thousands more, the Sonata is very appealing. The V6 engine is not the most powerful, but is smooth and adeqaute enough for everyday travel, and the occasional cross-country trip. Final verdict: I love my new car.

Great Car! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By CWS - August 18 - 12:32 amWe have 4 kids, so money is always a consideration. I needed a reliable car for a fair price, and this car is IT. Transferable warranty (6 years) was a big selling feature. Its quiet, fairly quick, and handles well. Hyundai will always be a make to consider for me in the future.

Would buy another Sonata - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By JEFFREY - August 16 - 3:10 amOverall I like the car. I have had to put some money repairs that I did not expect. I also dont like the remote control is only available by the dealership at cost of over a hundred and fifty dollars. I also only get 12 MPG while driving in city driving. Expected better but is a V6 I have the LX. I have had my car garaged over night I think three times.
