Not sure how you can get under 17 mpg in the city. I guess those posting 12- 13 must really live in a city, with stop and go, heavy traffic and never drive over 5-10 mph. We average 18.5 mpg city (suburban driving) and 25-26 highway (only measured highway mileage once). 1900 miles on the odometer. Sold our 4wd Sienna got 12mpg. This is basically the same interior size getting 80% better city mpg.

  • 1 month and 1,000 miles later - 2008 Honda Odyssey

It has been a month and 1,000 miles since we got our Odyssey. I am very impressed with the van and I am very happy with the buy. The van drives very smooth and plenty of power and good agility. It is also very roomy and comfortable. We have 2 car seats and the interior room is great for our family. The sound system and the DVD player works great. The Navi and DVD are easy to use. I first thought there might be too many features to learn. But it only took me a short time to be very comfortable with all of the controls and features. The gas mileage is good for a vehicle this size, thanks to the cylinder deactivation. I get 18 to 23 combined both freeway and city.

  • Soft Brakes - 2008 Honda Odyssey

Have a case open with Honda on these brakes. This issue has been known for over a year and a half and dealers have no fix, Honda says they are working on it. These brakes are firm when new but after a couple of thousand miles become soft. Note the several accidents involved with the brakes in Edmunds forum.

  • No better minivan around - 2008 Honda Odyssey

If in the market for a minivan, it is hard not to pick the Odyssey. While styling is never in the forefront in such a practical vehicle, this vehicle looks great. The engine is silky smooth, and the VCM is seamless. The DVD system allows all passengers in the 2nd and 3rd row to see and hear great, while the drivers can listen to the radio or just talk. The navigation system is among the best I have seen. The fold down third row is convenient. Access to all seating is easy for all from the youngest to oldest. Really no downside here.

  • Worth It! - 2008 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I have never owned a Honda but had seen and heard about the Odyssey and decided it was worth a look. We bought and have fallen in love with the van. We only have one child but really like the room, convenience, the ride and overall quality. My wife has been stuck on SUVs and has told me over and over again what a smart buy this van was and how she absolutely loves it. You will not be disappointed and can be comforted with the fact that as a Honda product your going to get the value (resale/residual) and the performance and life expectancy you expect. Oh and the gas mileage after 3,000 miles is pretty good. I can cruise at 75 and be on 3 cylinders. Im getting about 22.5 - 25 city/hwy.

  • Love my Minivan - 2008 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I love my van. I tried the Toyota and was not impressed. Although you can get more for your money. The quality was not superb as mine. Id rather get basic model and get the right choice! However Hondas basic does come with a lot. Toyota offers some of my basics as options. The gas mileage is great as well. I am getting 19/20 mpg. We all need that with the gas prices. Id rather drive a van than any suv too.

  • Great Van - 2008 Honda Odyssey
    By -

This is my third Honda vehicle and all of them have been exceptional products. I have just 4,000 miles on the van so far and Im very impressed. It rides and handles very well! I just came back from a 3,200 cross-country trip and I was impressed with the gas mileage. Droving 78-82 MPH for most of the trip, loaded to the gills with luggage, my wife and 2 kids, running the A/C the entire time, I got a consistent solid 23 MPG. While driving on country back roads around 65-70 MPH, I achieved 27 MPG. In city driving I get 17-18 MPG. Everything is functional and well designed. No problems with anything so far.

  • Excellent minivan! - 2008 Honda Odyssey

I purchased this 2008 Honda Odyssey Touring in February and its the best van I ever bought. It has a really powerful engine which provides a forceful and strong pull. I have have a little over 20,000 miles and there is no problems. It feels rock solid and expensive when compared to the cheap Toyota Sienna. I averaged 30.6 mpg on a 2000 mile highway road trip. Much better then competition like Toyota or Nissan. Go Honda Products!

  • 2008 Odyssey Touring - 2008 Honda Odyssey

I traded in my old 2001 Odyssey EX w/NAV for a 2008 Odyssey Touring w/o PAX. Its been about month since I purchased it and everybody loves it. The $3,000. discount off of MSRP from the dealer was a big incentive. In terms of quality, comfort, fun to drive, handling, and entertainment features, its been great for my wife and our kids. For such a complex vehicle with all of its gadgets, there has not been one defect so far; not even a rattle or squeak. The only negative I have seen so far is the mileage is not all that good. My average mpg is around 14. My old 2001 Odyssey had better average mpg at 18.

  • From Accord to Odyssey - 2008 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Just traded in my 2008 Honda Accord EXl 4cyl . Needed more room and wanted dvd and nav so i went for the big enchilada. Boy am i happy with this van,Its everything i had heard and read and more. The leather is of high grade and the seats are so comfortable.Having DVD made our trip to Asheville NC quiet with two teenagers and a 6 year old in the back. And without nav i would not have attempted as much of the exploring i did in Asheville.I read some of the complaints on here about being given strange routes but it does give options to route by easiest, direct, hwy . I found the nav very user friendly and powerful. The new Odyssey is a technological wonder and why Honda rules minivan market!!
