This Year's Model Updates:

Most significant for the Honda minivan this year is the option to get the Touring trim with the rear-seat entertainment system and not the navigation system. Previously, the two features were always packaged together. Other changes this year include additional child-seat tether anchors for the third row and standard satellite radio for the Touring model. Finally, stated power output for the Odyssey's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Split flat-folding rear bench
  • Agile, carlike handling
  • Optional eight-passenger seating
  • Strong reliability record.
  • Extensive feature list
  • Smooth and powerful V6

  • 20/28 mpg, not quite! - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Its a pretty decent vehicle, although we miss the comfort of our Chrysler LXI. The Chrysler was quieter and drove more like a car. The brakes in the Honda and other safety features are far superior though. The two things that just frost me are the fact that the sticker mileage was lets just say -- inaccurate. Yea, I know your mileage may vary but I expect to be able to at least compare these numbers with other vehicles. Were getting 15 in the city and 18 on the highway with no execptional demand on the car! Thats less than my gas guzzling neighbors Suburban! I brought it to Hondas attention and they said your mileage may vary

My 2006 Odyssey with cylinder deactivation has yet to get close to 20 MPG, even with 100% highway miles. Nothing like the claimed fuel economy. Also, it is the worst road-noise car Ive owned in a decade. I recently rented a Grand Caravan for several weeks which was much quieter and smoother ride (and better mileage).

  • Disappointment - 2006 Honda Odyssey

This was the first Honda we had bought. I just traded it in after only 11 months. We were very unhappy with the gas mileage, 15 city/22 highway. The A/C did not work the day we picked it up and it took several visits after having to drive in 90+ deg VA weather before the leak was found and correctly fixed. Trouble with run flat tire at 10000 miles. Concerning mileage I was told no one should expect what they advertise.

  • BEWARE! Road test before buying! - 2006 Honda Odyssey

I traded in my 03 Odyssey for 06. 06 has had vibrations in steering wheel at highway cruising speeds since purchase which make vehicle annoying, tiring and perhaps even unsafe to drive. Also excessive steering "kickback" from bumps and imperfections in pavement. Honda has balanced tires twice with no improvement. Suggest you road test Odyssey at highway speed before purchasing.

  • 2005 Quality Issues - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Fell in love with the 2005 Odyssey over the Sienna and others but the quality is lacking in many regards. The car has visited the service center multiple times. Wind noise, whistle from passenger side. Transmission sounds like it is going out. Windows already been serviced as they got stuck. Front center console stays in the down position, too noisy when extended. Hood is misaligned and told to take to get fixed. I have offered this vehicle for test drives to new customers, Honda refused because they know this vehicle wouldnt sell. 30,610 overpaid for this vehicle. Watch out!!

  • Bubba Beta-Build aint better - 2006 Honda Odyssey

My expectation for a Honda vehicle was that it would be well-built and reliable. I was very disappointed to find the low gloss, poor paint filled with dirt on horizontal surfaces, body panels that dont fit and indifferent build quality. This is domestic poor build quality for premium prices. Honda obviously has high gross profit margin on these cars built in Alabama because they certainly havent invested in their process or quality control safety nets to deliver value. Im sorry that I didnt buy the Sienna. Having said this, we love the van, but feel that it delivers marginal value for money paid.

  • Beware - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Overall design is good. Many features not on other mini vans such as rear windows, storage, overall ride is good. First vehicle of several I have owned that doesnt come close to the stated fuel economy. Also, due to location of A/C condenser coil being low, unprotected, and up against front bumper makes it the most vulnerable design in industry to "common gravel" damage (not rocks or road debris). Mine was damaged by common gravel (1/8") after just 7,000 miles.

  • not very impressed at all... - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Bought this vehicle hoping that the build quality was better than your average van. Boy was I was wrong! Worst paint job (silver) Ive ever seen, full of vertical dark spots. You actually can see how they sprayed the paint on vertically and uneven. Many plastic parts on the van did not fit together right, glove boxes are out of alignment, body rubber trim pieces do not seal, rattle noise from front passenger side, chrome grill was loose. I took the van back to the dealer and the answer I got was dont worry about if right now, you have 3 years warranty on it. What a joke. I took it home and fixed most of the misaligned plastic pieces myself. Should have bought a Toyota Sienna

  • Silver Pearl Paint Blotchy - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

We looked at both the Odyssey and the Sienna and decided on the Honda because we liked the looks of the front end and the interior better. Even though we like this van for its handling and performance, there are lots of quality issues that we thought we would not see in a Honda product. From plastic parts not fitting properly, glove boxes not aligned to the deformed rear side window seal. The van we purchased was in silver pearl. The other day when it was parked in the sun I noticed that the whole side of the van was covered in dark blotches when viewed at an angle. When I turned the van around it was the same thing on the other side but not as bad. The dealer said this was normal. ??

  • Was disappointed in the van - 2006 Honda Odyssey

The van rides well but the gas mileage is not anywhere near the figures quoted. Have owned this van 4 months and it has been in the shop 3 times already. Has had the brakes go out - and there was a recall on them. The passenger seatbelt is uncomfortable and Honda does not have an extension available. Has had one run-flat tire already had to be replaced. We found to replace the run-flat tire is $650.00 according to the dealer. Thought the hidden compartment was cool - but found is impractical to use.
