  • 05 Ody = Love it, Hate it - 2005 Honda Odyssey

Ive owned this van now for just over a year. Initial ownership was bliss. However, at 6k miles, the joy turned to frustration with the grinding brakes. Being told there is a "fix" in the works and here we are almost a year later with no fix. This brake problem has limited our excursions. No big road trips for us. Mountain trips? Not! As if that isnt bad enough, the transmission is acting up. The low droning and slipping is telling me that a rental car is in our future. Yesterday it stalled on us and I wont drive it until I can call American Honda tomorrow (I know itll need to be towed). I really wish that this van held up to what I thought it could be. It would have been great.

  • Not impressed! - 2005 Honda Odyssey

We researched minivans for a year, hands down everyone said you cant go wrong with the Odyssey. Boy we we wrong. We have been in three times for the front bumber that was incorrect from the start because a clip was broken. We are still waiting for the new part. Then we have been in four times for the driver-side sliding door, which will not close unless the driver -side doors is open. Now we found out that the power steering pump is going and needs to be replaced. Our car only has 5,500 miles on it. A power steering pump should not go on a car that new. Also, I have been waiting two weeks for the new part to come in.

  • Beware of the droning sound! - 2005 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Deeply disappointed in this car. There is a loud droning sound at 2,100 RPM (sounds like a lawnmower). It is loud and gives a headache after a while. I have already taken the car to the dealership several times in 1 year - got the audio system replaced, brakepads replaced, fixed a whistling sound coming from the windshield at high speeds. Wonder what else is coming after the warranty runs out. Wouldnt buy it again!!

  • upset mom - 2005 Honda Odyssey

When buying the car we were told it was a EX with leather with all of the options, but instead they just added the leather seats and entertainment system to trick us. Horrible gas milage, we wanted space in the car, but without spending so much time at the pump filling up the tank. Other than the major upset of not having the right engine, the car makes life much easier to haul things from place to place.

  • Quality Problems - 2005 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Weve had a number of quality problems. We have had it into the dealer about 9 times in 2 months. They have now had it the last 3 days with no end in sight. Ergonomics of many controls are poor, many of them not at all intuitive. We really wish we could go back in time and not buy this vehicle.

  • Shoddy Job - 2005 Honda Odyssey

Honda wont stand behind workmanship. I owned a 1995 Honda Odessey and LOVED it. The 2005 design w/removable seats is a laugh. Where are you going to put the 2nd row seats when you take them out? Only have room to put the small in hidden area. The carpets are installed very poorly and w/in hours of buying it was already coming out from undertucked areas. Is CUT drastically where the seat are design to go. HUGE pieces of material that flip up and leaves a gapping hole. Brakes actually started to dragging (They did fix them), Sliding door defaulted causing damage but Honda wont fix the door nor the repair. Attempted to hide w/different color. Paint peeling on body!

  • It has been an Odyssey - 2005 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Before buying, we researched many vans and this came up on top in all. But after mystery electrical issues that have left us stranded 3x and having to replace all four tires after 18000 miles (at Hondas expense) makes me concerned for what the next 18000 miles will bring. It is a very comfortable van, nice features dont get me wrong. Fuel economy should be better, option for non-run flat tires should be there, and maybe the weight of the tires contribute to the lower mpg than even my brother in laws EX-L. Handles very well and VCM is unnoticeable.

  • Problems!!!! - 2005 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Been in Shop a few times, power door motors replaced, heating problem in winter not yet resolved, sad to say, not as nice as my neighbors AWD Sienna. If I had to do it all over, I would have gone with AWD Sienna. In my opinion, Honda quality has slipped, and when I think of quality, I think of Honda service, and Im sorry, Toyota simply blows them away. There was a time not too long ago when that wasn’t the case.

  • disappointment - 2005 Honda Odyssey

My children encouraged me to purchase a Honda. After driving voyagers and caravans for almost twenty years,I was looking forward to moving up to a town and country, instead purchased the touring model of the Odyssey. The car was in the shop for over ten days, two trips to the dealership, two wasted days of my time, to fix an engine light on the dash. The touring model is supposed to have adjustable armrests, not so, and the dealer said it is within parameters. The interior finish is ok but not what I expected from Honda. Would I buy this car again? No, it is not worth 35,000.

  • Honda Odyessy Touring Model a GAS HOG - 2005 Honda Odyssey
    By -

The Honda Odyessy 2005 Touring Model met the advertised specifications except EPA gas mileage. It is a gas hog! Fuel economy is adverstised at 21/28 City/ Highway. I get ( with over 8500 miles on the vehicle) 13.8 MPG City and 21MPG Interstate. This great variance of more than 30% was related to America Honda Corporate HQs in Torrance, CA. several times. Their response was, you should expected to get a little difference depending on driving conditions. My requests for the EPA test specs for fuel economy was denied. A 30 % variance does not meet the ethical business practice that you expect from Honda. I would have purchased a Toyota Sienna instead, and intend to do that.
