This Year's Model Updates:

The Odyssey gains a number of improvements this year. Included with the Odyssey 2.1 upgrade is more power, a new five-speed transmission, standard rear disc brakes and side airbags, optional leather seating and DVD entertainment, two new exterior colors and minor interior storage refinements.

Pros:
  • Excellent crash-test scores, huge interior, fold-flat third-row seat, powerful V6, optional navigation and entertainment system, a bargain at sticker price.
Cons:
  • Slow power sliding doors, dealer markup still a possibility.

It has issues and Honda Motor Company does not wish to address them.

  • LOVE this van! - 2002 Honda Odyssey

We have always been a Toyota family...until we bought the Odyssey. It doesnt have some of the little "extras" like outside temp guage, but who cares? Id rather have a vehicle I can depend on and this is it! I will never have a different kind of minivan.

  • Best van around - 2002 Honda Odyssey

This is an excellent van. Great handling and power at all speeds. It is worth the higher price because resale blows the competition away.

  • Disappointed - 2002 Honda Odyssey

Body integrity has been poor. Rattles in doors and wind noise at 60-70 mph is excessive. Would not buy another.

  • Soccer Family Tranquilizer Gun - 2002 Honda Odyssey
    By -

The EX/L model with the DVD entertainment system is like shooting the kids with a tranquilizer gun. Total silence!! We purchased 2 extra sets of headphones for the back (4 total) and I can listen to country music in front and the kids can either put in a DVD or some crappy Rap CD that I dont have to listen to and theyre happy...and so am I!!! Whoever thought up the ntertainment system was a genius. The fold down rear seat gets used all the time at the soccer fields. When it rains, the back hatch serves as a perfect cover. The only problem since buying the Odyssey is that we had to replace the climate control system.

  • Great Car - 2002 Honda Odyssey

Over all pleased with the Honda. The customer support has been better than any other dealer I have worked with in the past. I do have an issue with the brake noise and the small arm rest. We have also replaced the windshield for the third time in less than 18 months. It seems that the aero dynamics pulls rocks into the windshield not over it. We are going to try a bug shield.

  • Checking on the AT Cooler Recommendation - 2002 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I tow a pop up at a bout 1900 - 2000 lbs. NO PROBLEMS SO FAR at 18,000 miles, but to follow up on the question below asking about a Honda recommendation to install AT and PS coolers on all Odysseys used for towing, Ive sent e- mail and left voice mail with my Sales Rep at Sam Swope Honda (Louisville, Ky) to check this out. WILL UPDATE WHEN I RECEIVE A RESPONSE

  • This is the best van ever made. - 2002 Honda Odyssey

    Simply the best mini-van.

  • Great though not perfect van - 2002 Honda Odyssey
    By -

What makes a vehicle a great one? It lives up to what it says in reality. It could be quality, reliability, comfortness, power, design functions, appearance, fuel economy, performance (all kinds), etc. This Odyssey is doing really well in almost all of the above characters, except the fuel economy, powertrain noise, and interior material quality. Overall, its a great van with value though not perfect.

  • Better get the transmission cooler! - 2002 Honda Odyssey

Yeah I know, the Odyssey has won all kinds of awards, but I am here to tell you they have problems. Mine is a 02 EX model with Navi. My tranny blew on I-75 in rural Georgia while I was cruising at 80 mph with my wife and two kids on board. The local dealer told me he had seen this before in both Accords and Odysseys where the tranny overheats and blows the fluid. Mine was covered under warranty and replaced after two weeks in the shop. The Honda dealer put in a rebuilt tranny. Honda eventually extended the warranty on the tranny to 10/100K from 3/35K. Also had problems with a door regulator, door seal and rear wiper. Look into a Toyota Sienna instead.
