This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

Cannot believe this is a small car. Rides very well and appears to be put together well

I would recommend reviewing the Civic Hybrid after 6 months or so. I reviewed shortly after purchase and have a few additional comments now that I have had some time with the car. Still a great car and glad I made the purchase. Fairly comfortable on long trips but as in any car, the sitting gets a little rough. Cruise is fairly steady but deviates about one mile/hr over/under the set speed as the engine has to catch up and back off. The audio w/ navi is not really XM ready. It still needs a tuner and a couple other parts. With installation, the dealer wanted $700. Otherwise, this car is one of the best buys. Get the Navi for sure. It is excellent, especially with voice recognition.

This is my first car purchase, and I couldnt be happier with it. The Honda Civic has been great to drive. It gets excellent gas mileage, especially for people who drive highways a lot like I do. It consistently gets 40mpg, and on longer trips, its been known to get 45mpg. I live in an area with a lot of deer, and the brakes respond very well when it is necessary to make a quick stop to avoid hitting a deer or any other critter that runs out in front of you. This is a great car for the money you pay.

  • The Ipod of cars - 2006 Honda Civic

This is one of the most unique things on the road, and put simply, Honda got it right. They have a powerful integrated feature set, nimble handling, excellent economy and a love it or hate it style to themselves. This is indeed the ipod of cars, and likely there will be as many people aggresively arguing for alternatives as there are for the actual ipod, but at the end of the day, people will buy and love this car because it just does what its supposed to do better than anything else on the road.

This car is just as advertised. 86 miles a day hills, highways, traffic and averaging 50mpg. Everytime I fill my tank its about 10 gallons and my trip set reads around 520+.

  • Fun Car To Drive, Best SI Ever - 2006 Honda Civic

Bought the car new in 2006, didnt really want a car with the Navi System in it, but now I cant live without it. The performance of this car is great. I have owned other Hondas in the past, but they really outdid them selves with this model. The car really starts to perform above 6k rpm. The power curve is great, its like the engine kicks up to another level. Glad I wanted for this years model to come out!! Very Low maintenance, I have only had to buy tires, and normal oil changes for 49k miles. Great fuel mileage for this model. Compared to a Acura RSX with the same engine, the SI averages about 8-10 miles per gallon more.

  • Finally the Civic of Dreams is here! - 2006 Honda Civic

I just recently purchased the 06 Civic EX coupe 5 speed Auto w/o Navi. This car rocks! Handling is amazing, so much fun to drive. The interior is packed full of ergonomic features. The exterior is stylish and modern. The cars wider base gives it a heavier feel and makes it seem like the vehicle hovers over the road. Love the 2 level instrumental panel display. I like seeing the speedometer reading with my peripheral vision. The seats offer great lumbar support for those long drives. I had friends ride in the back seat and they said that the ride was comfortable and smooth. This awesome, new and much improved Civic can do no wrong & to think I was going to buy a Scion Tc!

  • SI - Surgical Instrument? - 2006 Honda Civic

After having my Civic Si for 7 months, I have to say I am in love with this car. (Shallow, I know) Now I wouldn’t call myself an overly aggressive driver, but we’ll just say that I’m not afraid to under steer or over steer a vehicle, with all the tire noise and panicked passenger(s) to boot. I like to power out of corners, or put another way; brake hard, throw in, and punch out. This car excels at this. The helical limited slip puts the power where it’s needed and without a lot a lot of fuss. Strait line weapon? Not sure. But chase it up through five (of six) gears on a Saturday night and the local judge may need to be roused from of bed if you want to go home before Sundays sunrise.

  • low cost of ownership - 2006 Honda Civic

Ive got 65K miles on it & Ive had to spend only about $1000 in 3 1/2 years (set of new tires, replace front brakes & coolant service) besides regular oil changes at 5-6K intervals.

  • Economical and sensible but not much else - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Owned this car for three years and have had no major problems -- Just two recalls for a tensioner bolt and drivers seat bracket bolt. Gas mileage is superb, but it is only a small 4 cyl. and you can notice the strain. As a prior poster mentioned, car is not good in the snow. Maybe too light? Have had difficulty ascending slight grades with only a coating of snow on the road. I have also had problems with traction on level streets from a stopped position. Interior constructed of VERY cheap plastics that scratch and mark seemingly from just looking at it wrong. Suspension squeaks during cold weather months. No momentum obtained on highway driving have to keep your foot to the floor.
