This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

  • The Ultimate in Affordability - 2006 Honda Civic

I got this car when oil prices were skyrocketing and cannot believe how much it saved me! I was driving a 2005 Pontiac GP and only got 22 mpg on average. I get about 35 mpg with my Honda! My best tank was 43.2. My worst tank (on purpose) was 29.7. I just wish it was a 6 speed. I would like to see how much better I can get on the highway cruising at 1800-2000 RPMs instead of 3000. It is so much fun driving this beast. The new 1.8L engine purrs wonderfully. It can really get up and go fast. The new two-tier dash is pretty slick looking. I can always just see how fast I am going without taking my eyes off the road, which is nice without a cruise control feature. You will not be disappointed. :)

This automobile meets the vast majority of my needs, town & some highway. Average overall mileage is in the low 40s. The 2 tier dashboard is great, important gauges easily read. Removed rear head rests for improved visibility to the rear.

  • Dont believe the MPG - 2006 Honda Civic

This is a fun car to drive and folks on the street are always asking about the car. However after a handful of fillups, the best weve done is 35.5 mpg on a combination of city and highway driving. Everything else about the car is great. It drive very nice and has a bigger car drive.

  • Great car, but . . . - 2006 Honda Civic

This car fits me like a glove. Its easy to handle, and is very responsive. Visibility is good for me because of its size. Im a woman and although my husband and I have an 03 Honda Accord, which I love, I found the visibility poor for me and it was just too big for me to handle. The Civic is the perfect size for me. Theres only one thing I find not to my liking: On a sunny day, theres a distracting reflection and glare on the windshield from the dashboard, maybe because the interior is a light color (ivory). I have the same problem on the back window. I wish I had been able to pick a different (darker) color for the interior, but I had no idea the light color would be a problem.

Quieter than 04 Civic, George Jetson styling. BMW3 performance. Big bang for the buck, which makes it even more fun to drive.

  • My First and Not my Last - 2006 Honda Civic

This is my first non North American Vehicle and Im kicking myself that I didnt make this move years ago. This car is well powered, great on gas (average 32mpg), incredibly solid, handles better than any car I have ever owned, smooth riding, is well designed, great materials inside, really sharp exterior. The seats are also very comfortable on a long trip with near infinite ways to adjust the seat. Its tough to find something not to like. This car has been well thought out and well built. Not tough to see why some North American manufacturers are having problems. Put this one at the top of your list.

  • Love my Honda - 2006 Honda Civic

Had my EX for 2 weeks. For the first time in my 34 years of driving, I went with an automatic. For about a month, I extensively test drove and researched the Civic’s competition. Had the luxury of a girlfriend with a 2006 Corolla S (the one I almost bought). She decided the Civic was a far better quality and riding car. So I thankfully followed her advice. Now I realize how much better a car than the Corolla the Civic is. It may lack a bit of guts than the Corolla on take off, but Im not driving in NASCAR, so who cares.

  • Very Happy LX Owner - 2006 Honda Civic

After 2200 miles I must say that we are very happy. Average MPG is 34 city and 39 highway. I recently drove the car on a 14 hour drive and the seats were uncomfortable after just a few hours of driving. While on vacation, the car was parked under a tree and suffered acron damage on the hood - I think that the hood sheet metal is a bit thin. The overall driving experience is excellent, however, the auto transmission seems to search for the correct gear on hills and highways - it is slow to up and downshift. Build quailty and materials are excellent - our Atomic Blue Civic (which we call Pug) was built in Japan and I am hoping it will provide years of safe, reliable service.

  • EX 4dr w/Navi - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Traded a Lexus GS300 for this car, & loved the Lexus so that should imply how impressive the new Civic design is to make me trade ($3 gas helped also). 35MPG minimum so far in town (40+ easy on Hwy) nowdays the savings can make a big dent in your payment! Adequate power, very good handling, solid feeling car. Honda GPS/Navi is worth every penny, dont short yourself - get it!! Safety ranking is tops, airbags etc. - outclasses many luxury cars in safety. Doesnt ride quite like the Lexus but is smooth, satisfying, quiet & agile, brakes butter smooth, turns on a dime. Youll have to drive to believe, as this is Not your Fathers Civic. Hard to believe its an econo mini car actually.

  • Forget the Prius - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

This is loads cheaper than a Prius and has potential for mileage well into the 40s if you drive right. Also, its not ugly and dangerous like the Prius. 46.7mpg on one tank on 87 octane on 55mph roads. 42 on interstates. City (lots of 25mph and stop and go)/highway mix was still a respectable 31. Design in and out was fabulous. Power was plenty for a gas saver. Ride was great for an economy car. Regret getting rid of but had a kid on the way and coupe was too small. I probably could have kept it though as the back seat was not small by any means for a coupe.
