This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

  • I though Honda was good... but... :( - 2006 Honda Civic

Beautiful, confortable but not reliable at all... A/C condenser supposedly punctured by a "Road Debris" that didnt even leave a dent??? and therefore not covered by warranty. I feel completely ripped off. For me this is result of poor design and poor materials... how big a pebble has to be to puncture a condensor and not leave a visible dent??? How many times will this happen again? I am done with Honda... first and last..

So I was not really looking to get a Civic until I drove the new Si. I have had classic Chevys over the years and they have all been over 300 hp. I know the the SI is not 300 but it still has guts for a 4 banger. The handling of this car is great right off the lot. I have yet to change anything to do with the suspension and I dont belive that I will. I did put 18" wheels on it with better tires. It made a pretty big difference.

  • Great car, fix the headrests - 2006 Honda Civic

Nice car. Good mileage (38mpg @ 1200 miles, mostly highway). 5 speed auto is nice, even coming from a stick, though I could do without it downshifting quite so aggressively. Only major problem sounds silly... The front headrests are too far forward, pushing your head forward and making it _very_ uncomfortable to drive for some folks (and my wife is one of them...) We didnt notice it on the test drive with all the other "Im in a new car" stuff going on, but be sure and check it out if youre considering one of these.

  • Okay For Its Price Range - 2006 Honda Civic

I love and hate this car at the same time. Love the interior/exterior styling of it. Having the Navigation is great. But its no fun to drive. Choppy and hesitant. Dont know if its throttle or transmission related. Post service to address this issue has been in vain. Very unimpressed with Honda service. Feel like Im stuck with a car thats not quite right. Will probably trade the car in this coming year.

  • My lil Blurp - 2006 Honda Civic

the car looks like a lil blurp, like i blew up a baloon and poof there it is,,lol. It is a very nice car though,, considering i just switched from a 04 gmc sierra (will never buy another GM vehicle again).

  • Solid car, but doesnt live up to rep. - 2006 Honda Civic

Great looking car inside and out.My gas mileage is very poor.Started out averaging 24-25 in city, now getting only 21-22 at 2000 miles on odometer.I hope there is something wrong to explain this. Where is remote key fob trunk release on LX model? Guess Honda cheaped out.Stupid power window lock on driver control. Besides locking passengers from operating windows, the driver is locked out from operating all except his window. So many small features left out that are on cheaper Chevys and Saturns.I am rather disappointed in this car for the price.Glad they have a history of good resale, hope this model doesnt ruin that.A/C Fizzles out when step on gas and even fizzles when at idle.

  • Bogus gas ratings - 2006 Honda Civic

I have some issues with the car. The sub rattles the interior, water comes in the door panels, and the sun visor broke. 30 mpg city and 40 highways? I only avg 27 mpg and I drive normal. I do like the feel of the car and drives very nice but very disappointed with the overall quality of the car and the gas mileage. My ford Taurus with 67,000 miles had no issues.

  • Paint Quality Standards? - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Love the interior and exterior styling, love the MPG, but I absolutely hate the fact that the front and rear bumpers do not match the rest of the vehicle. I purchased the EX Sedan in alabaster silver as I like light exterior colors and do not like brown interiors. All of the silver and other light to medium colored Civics on the dealer lots had this issue. Due to needing a vehicle immediately, I went ahead with the purchase. However, every time I look at the vehicle, I am disappointed by how bad the mismatch make the vehicle look. I cant help but question Hondas paint standards. Very disappointing. Honda - get it fixed!!!!

  • Almost Perfect - 2006 Honda Civic

Everything everyone saying is true, great car, very smooth and quiet. My only regret is that the auto trans doesnt have a manual mode. This car has good power when you stand on it, but in city driving the transmission is always trying to go into overdrive, cutting off the power and forcing you to stand on it. It downshifts smoothly, but it tends to "hunt." I know the transmission is trying to achieve better mileage, but Id give up some mileage for a 2.0 liter engine and more torque or a manumatic mode.

Traded in a 05 2 door Civic LX for the 06 4 door EX. Even though car has more ponies it will get you where you want but still seems weak on horsepower. The design of the car really caught my eye, and the materials are of the quality you would expect. The price is not bad considering you get moon roof, alloy wheels, side curtain air bags,ABS, and a sticker EPA of 40mpg hwy. I had compared the new Jetta and the Mazda 3. The Jetta was more expensive and both did not get the EPA mileage the Civic is supposed to. As I said "its a Honda". This new Civic is a good looker but still is pretty plain vanilla when it comes to driving experience. Reliability rated excellent but really have not had long enough
