This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2008 GMC Acadia, eight-passenger seating and satellite radio become standard on the base SLE-1 model, while a rearview camera and a second-row console become available on upper trim levels.

Pros:
  • Plenty of passenger and cargo space, smooth ride, above-average tow capacity for a crossover.
Cons:
  • Some subpar interior trim, transmission can be slow to downshift.

  • Love My Acadia - 2008 GMC Acadia
    By -

This is by far the best vehicle I have ever driven. I have always driven SUVs, but this crossover provides the best of both worlds. The ride is superb, and the interior has so much room and great features. We looked at just about every suv and crossover w/ 7 passenger seating. Nothing came even close! I was nervous buying a vehicle that was such a new model, but all of the reviews I read were very accurate. This vehicle is one that actually lives up to and even exceeds the hype.

  • Love it! But look out for insurance rate - 2008 GMC Acadia
    By -

Weve had our Acadia about 9 months and dearly love it. Gas mileage is about the same or slightly better than our supercharged Buick Regal. Love the extra space, Love the extra features, love everything! I would buy this again, for sure. For convenience, mileage for its size (although they need an E85 or hybrid option), features, pure styling (looks so beautiful!) and performance it gets a gold star.

Picked up our Acadia in February and used it on several long distant trips getting between 22-26 mpg on the highway. My daughter and I (plus 2 young granddaughters) use it for our weekly grocery shopping - doesnt hold as much as her Tahoe but we enjoy the Acadias large individual comfort zones. We love XM radio, climate control keeps all areas of the vehicle very comfortable

  • Love this truck - 2008 GMC Acadia

Ive had the truck for 3 months and I love it. Very comfortable, very roomy. The gas mileage could be better but not bad compared to other SUVs.

  • 1200 Miles and Going Strong - 2008 GMC Acadia

2008 SLT-2 purchased in March with high hopes and have not been disappointed yet. Has most of the bells and whistles and cant wait to get behind the wheeel (when the wife lets me). Kids all love it and made them forget the old car (Expedition) pretty fast. Pretty much an around the town type of car, but planning a longer trip this summer.

  • Almost Perfect - 2008 GMC Acadia

I was considering a truck or truck based SUV, but high gasoline prices made me consider the Acadia. So far my mileage is just shy of 21 mpg for the first 3000 miles based on a 50/50 city/highway mix. Handling is much better than in previously owned SUVs; passenger/cargo space is also much better. This is a big, heavy vehicle that feels nimble and has reasonable performance.

  • Finally a GM worth driving - 2008 GMC Acadia
    By -

Have been driving Suburbans, Yukons, Jimmys, Envoys and now the Acadia for over 20 years. Without a doubt, GM finally got it right with this Acadia. Nice and confortable to drive and plenty of gadgets to keep me busy.

  • Great Crossover - 2008 GMC Acadia

Previously owned SUVs are a 1997 Tahoe and a 2000 Mountaineer, and additionally in the past 20 years we have owned vehicles from VW, Ford, Nissan, Volvo, Porche, and BMW. We are very much brand agnostic, so drove every available similar SUV. The Porche wasnt really a consideration, due to price, and wasnt an all around favorite anyway. We really liked Buicks sibling of the Acadia, but the local dealer didnt have one equipped the way we liked. Id have a hard time rating any car a 10 in more than one or two categories, so I consider 9 excellent. This is an excellent all-around vehicle, but although pleasant to drive, I cant say fun-to- drive. Gas mileage has been in the 20 mpg range.

What more could you want from a vehicle? Better gas mileage (mine averages 21) than SUVs yet with the same amount of space (actually the Acadia has a longer wheelbase than the Yukon). All the extra features you could ask for and comfort, visability, space, etc. The cars message screen actually tells you "Ice possible, please drive with care" or reminds you that the blinker is on. All for less than $40k...try and get a Tahoe loaded for that!

  • Weird Transmission - 2008 GMC Acadia
    By -

Were very pleased with our new Acadia in all respects except for one - the transmission shifts weird, especially under light acceleration. It seems to shift too early under light acceleration which then has a negative effect on acceleration. The shifts almost seem like it is skipping a gear. RPMs will go from over 3000 down to under 2000 in a single shift resulting in a significant loss in power. It doesnt seem like the transmission utilizes the 270hp fully, typical of a GM product in my experiences. It acts like it has a 100hp engine unless you put your foot on the floor and then it takes off like a spring chicken. Mileage has been respectable for this size of vehicle, 21.5 hyw.
