For 2004, the Thunderbird gets revised seat trim, an Audiophile stereo, Homelink and newly styled aluminum accents. Exterior changes include new V8 badging, redesigned 17-inch wheels and a Light Sand Appearance package, which includes cream-colored gauges, a sand-colored top and bronze interior accents. Merlot, Platinum Silver and Vintage Mint Green are new exterior paint choices this year.

Pros:
  • Silky-smooth V8, cool retro styling, relaxed yet capable handling, available hardtop.
Cons:
  • Minimal trunk space, lackluster interior design, no manual transmission offered.

  • So Much For So Little - 2004 Ford Thunderbird

When I saw the Thunderbird in a car magazine I ran to my Ford Dealership and said I want one. He told me it would be $10,000 over sticker. I said I would wait until they had 10 of them and balloons hanging off of them in a few years. That was in 2000 I waited four years. And saw two of them on the Ford lot. Went in and bought it for $3000 off. It is the only car I have ever owned more than a year that I still cant get enough of it. I love the complements. Very reliable. No leaks, no problems.

I have waited 25 years for Ford to return with a two-seater Thunderbird. Ive wanted one since I was in high school. This incarnation is a close as anyone could come to the original spirit and design, and still make it a modern car which I believe is fast becoming a collectors item. I enjoy this car immensely and would not trade it for the world. I hope that Ford reconsiders their plans to end production in 05.

I have owned and driven sporty convertibles for over 45 years. This is absolutely the finest of any I have driven.

It is a great little car! Not great on gas but is fast with its V8 engine. It is a Ford and reliable too. I love my hard top and soft top. Two cars in one.

From the minute I saw it at the SF auto show I knew I wanted one. I put 3K down and waited 8 months and when it was delivered to the dealer the sales mgr called me. He said the whole place was abuzz and I should come see why. As I drove up it was parked on Market Street and there was a crowd. Since that day this turquoise beauty has turned heads. People have come up and asked a zillion questions, some ask me for my card and laugh when they realize I dont sell cars. This thing sells itself. With or without the black hard top its a delight to the senses.

Great looking, A real head turner. Smooth driving, plenty of pick-up, corners great. Excellent sound quality in CD player. Am very happy with this buy.

  • Strange issues - 2004 Ford Thunderbird

The charm and joy of driving is great. The quirks heating (SaunaBird) of the interior when idling is awful, transmission still slams into Drive, clock (third) still runs slow, rattling top, electronic bugs, lack of amenities (like a stripped Lincoln LS), etc. For the price this is a slapped together car. Too bad. Many trips to dealer did not work out the problems. Ford didnt help. Ford made this car an orphan and dropped it at the orphanage. Bill Ford should be ashamed.

No problems whatsoever. LOVES to run at 80 mph! No leaks, no rattles! Ford hit a good balance between pure fun and practical - trunk not huge, but still big enough for a weekend trip or an ordinary trip to the grocery store, even with the top down. Seats could use a bit more lower back support, but are otherwise very comfortable. A/C is Great! Power tilt wheel is very convenient.
