This Year's Model Updates:

All 2004 Ford Rangers get a more aggressive raised hood and a partitioned grille that more closely matches that of other Ford trucks. Inside, seats have been revised to improve comfort, and leather upholstery is a new option. A new leather-wrapped, four-spoke steering wheel is available on some models, as is a floor console. New white-faced gauges are standard on all models, except the base XL. The Tremor model's 510-watt stereo now has MP3 capability, and other models are eligible for a 290-watt Pioneer Sound package with an in-dash CD/MP3 player. Additionally, the Tremor is available with four-wheel drive this year, and the off-road-ready FX4 gets an electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case. Sixteen-inch aluminum wheels are optional on two-wheel-drive Edge models, and an engine block heater is standard in select states.

Pros:
  • Strong 4.0-liter V6 engine, multiple trim levels and options, functional interior.
Cons:
  • Dated platform, weak base engines, no crew cab configuration.

I have a 2002 ranger it was a good little truck...UNTIL then main head gasket leaked then the I had to have all the belts and pulleys replaced then the gasket again and again and the most resent thing replaced was the WHOLE transmission. This truck is horrible on gas has no power and goes throw brakes like crazy and no its not my driving my husband drives it now and he goes throw brakes to at least every 3 months. Back doors dont always shut right and it isnt a pleasent ride. Fords service departments are the worst no support after purchase

i bought my 2004 ranger xlt 1-2004 within the first week, gravel guards feel off, had to have both passenger side doors removed and adjusted, drivers seat seperated between the back and the bottom exposing my tailbone to the IRON BAR which caused my tailbone to be brused,2 days ago i traded off this junk after reverise started slepping at 1000 miles.

Since 92, I have owned 3 ranger 4x4s. A 92,98 and 2004. I wish I had my 98 back. I had 2drs and bought a 4 dr, thinking my 5 yr old daughter would like it better, WRONG! Its noisy, on the highway and the engine makes more noise than the 98 4.0/v6. I see short cuts, like mud flaps, no skirting in wheel wells, high back buckets that are comfortable but lots of blind spots. I rate the 04 at a 2 because I think Ford was more interested in the F-150 and caturing the market with that model, thus leaving the best selling small p/u out of the picture for 2004.
