This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's popular compact pickup receives a number of minor changes for 2003. The 2002 Tremor package, with its ear-splitting 485-watt sound system, returns for 2003 as a trim level, joining XL, Edge and XLT in the lineup. A chrome appearance package for select XLT models is available, and last year's FX4 package for four-wheel-drive Rangers is offered in two guises: Off Road and Level II. New Sonic Blue paint is unique to FX4 Level II Rangers. Other changes to the 2003 Ford Ranger include covered visor vanity mirrors for XLT models, standard step bars on XLT 4WD SuperCab and Edge 4WD models and minor interior trim and fabric revisions on some models. Finally, crew cab rear seats get LATCH anchors, and some new colors are available.

Pros:
  • Strong 4.0-liter V6 engine, handsome styling, variety of trim levels, functional interior.
Cons:
  • Uncomfortable cabin, dated design, no V8 is available, no crew cab configuration.

In 14 years of owning my Ranger it only let me down once, thats because the fuel pump died when I got to work. Had to have it towed to the dealer the truck was already 10 years old and built in N.J.

I have driven many trucks in all sizes and the 2003 Ranger Supercab XLT is one of the best small trucks I have been in. When I had it in for tires, oil change and inspection, they gave me a loaner truck, a Nissan Frontier. It was a few years newer and had 80,000 less miles on it, but I still thought my old Ranger was so much better that I drove back to the dealer and waited for mine. Only 2 small trucks I have driven have come close to my 2003 Ranger, the 1st was almost as good and was my 94 Ranger. The other was a 2002 S10. None of the import trucks I have been in have been anywhere near as good.

  • The little truck that could do anything - 2003 Ford Ranger

This truck is a great all around vehicle. A daily driver to work, trips to home depot, cargo hauler, contractor truck, off-road fun, this truck can do it all! The design is tested and true, the interior and exterior look and function great. Cant complain about anything. My second Ranger, and each one is as solid as the next.

Now approaching 120,000 miles, and all Ive had to do is brakes, clutch, and 2 iac valves for repairs. It has very comfortable cab, seats and controls, with lots of creature comforts. It handles well and rides well - as much like a sporty car as a truck, yet it can haul a good-sized load. Im getting between 19 and 20 mpg in mixed use driving. The 4-door cab is an excellent feature, making it much easier to get stuff in and out of the back of the cab. Overall, an excellent small pickup.

I have owned an S10, a Dakota, and a Ranger. The Ranger is by far the best I have owned. Other than oil changes I have just bought 2 sets of wiper blades. This is a great fun truck. It looks great, is great on the highway. I will deffinetly get another one. I love driving on the highway to college with this. Drives real easy. Manual transmission shifts real easy and is geared well

  • My Ranger is the best - 2003 Ford Ranger

I got a great deal on my used Ranger 4 years ago and have replaced 4 tires and brakes and wiper blades and thats all. There is no broken trim etc. like you would expect on a 5 year old vehicle. It is very confortable ride for a truck. It gets about 18 mpg city and 22 highway. Not the best but ok for a truck. My teenage boys arent embarassed to be seen riding in it and even want to drive it. This is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. My mechanic told me to let him know when Im ready to sell it.

This is my third ranger. And I have only had one little problem with a oil pressure sensor (with 62000 miles). The trucks are solid and never seem to have problems. I have driven thousands of rough miles in Baja Mexico and not had any problems, which is a very good thing when I am in the middle of no where. I have read complaints about dealers fixing problems but I havent had to take any of mine in.

  • Nice - 2003 Ford Ranger

I bought my truck about a year ago and I do a lot of driving. This has to be my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. The power is there when you need it and I love trying to push it as much as possible. Gas miledge is nothing to write home about but getting about 18- 19 with heavy city driving and traffic isnt too bad. Love the visibility, much better then sitting on the ground with my old Tercel.

I just bought this truck used to get me around while I finish customizing my 01 Chevy S-10. It is such a nice truck that I am now thinking of customizing it too(just a little). While the Ranger doesnt have the initial pickup that my dime(S-10) does it is strong and can pull way more than my dime ever thought about. I like the Rangers styling and is very fun to drive. I wish it got a little better gas mileage but you cant have everything. There really is no comparison so I am glad I own both.
