The Freestyle is an all-new crossover wagon from Ford. Built on a Volvo platform, it incorporates the Swedish brand's safety and all-wheel-drive technology, while offering six- to seven-passenger seating capacity.

Pros:
  • Truly roomy seating for six passengers, plenty of cargo space, balanced ride and handling characteristics, lengthy list of safety features.
Cons:
  • So-so acceleration, some low-grade interior materials, no stability control or navigation system.

  • Awesome Vehicle - Mediocre Marketing - 2005 Ford Freestyle

With over 43,000 miles, our Freestyle has been extremely reliable and well mannered. It can easily accommodate 6 adults with keep them all comfortable with room to spare! The seats are comfortable it has an excellent heating/AC system. The powerful factory six disc (cd & MP3s) quite simply, rocks! The seats are very comfortable on long trips and if you can keep it under 60mph you can even knock down 30mpg (24+mpg at 75mph). The Volvo chassis is VERY tight but the suspension is forgiving on rough roads. It handles curves with authority (no tip over warnings on the visors). Auto rags have criticized its performance, but the CVT affords an 8 second 0-60 with 200hp - OUTSTANDING!

  • Finally used in Ice and Snow - 2005 Ford Freestyle

My wife has medical problems that made entering and exiting her Taurus a problem. Explorer sat too tall. Pilot was too bulky. Pilot was too expensive. Pacifica was ok, but no deals. We liked the Freestyle with the first test drive. The local dealer ran an ad showing 8 Freestyle Limiteds for the same very good price. We also got 0 percent financing. The fold down seats have been great allowing us to carry 25 to 30 entries to flower shows all over Washington. Mileage has been as high as 26. Lowest maybe 16. Adjustable seats with 2 presets work great for wife. Major snow and ice this week and the Freestyle with Pirellis performed flawlessly. We are very happy with the CVT and the car.

This is the best highway driving vehicle I have ever owned. I also am averaging 26 mpg on the highway. The AWD really makes winter driving safe and also during rainy conditions. I have not had one problem with this vehicle, I am very pleased with it.

We have had our Freestyle for almost a year and a half now and still think it is wonderful. It is easy to drive, has plenty of room, and returns mileage that one does not expect in such a spacious vehicle. Yes it is a wagon, and like generations before, that is what works for families.

  • Great Family Car - 2005 Ford Freestyle

I really wanted a wagon, but this is as close as I could get to a full sized wagon. Turned out to be a great choice, and the trips to Home Depot are a cinch with all the fold down seats. The car gets about 20 MPG around town and 25 - 26 on the highway. Not bad for a car this size. The car has been 100% reliable and has only had to return to the dealer for routine service. Im glad to hear Ford decided to keep this vehicle around for 2007 and beyond.

  • My 2005 Freestyle FWD - 2005 Ford Freestyle

I have 2500 miles on my 2005 Freestyle FWD and so far it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. My previous vehicle was a 98 Explorer Sport and it gave me 115,000 trouble free miles. In my opinion the Freestyle has been well engineered to have an effective balance between fuel economy and performance. I have never felt the need for more power. If I wanted a sports or muscle car I would have bought one, but this car is not gutless from a drivers perspective. My close second choice was a Honda Odyssey, but in the end I liked the overall driving experience I felt driving the Freestyle. It feels smooth, tight, quiet and responsive.

  • My favorite Drive - 2005 Ford Freestyle

I really love driving this Freestyle. Easy in and out for any older person. Continuous drive train a real delight to use. Feel of an SUV, high up but really not so overbearing as an SUV. I will definitely hope to still have the availability of the Freestyle when it is time for a new automobile.

  • Still love this car! - 2005 Ford Freestyle

As a "Volvo only" car buyer I was reluctant to buy a Ford. This car has been great (I got 7 seats, leather, split 3rd row seat) and I still rave about it. This car fit all my requirements: no minivan, no SUV, good gas mileage, seats 7, fits the canoe, fits the tandem, easy to get in and out of...this car has it all! I personally find it to be fine in power on the highway, much better than the Volvo we had and weve towed a lot. This summer we loaded an 18 ft. canoe, 4 people, one large dog, a Thule box and camping gear for a week and it all fit comfortably. The gas mileage is great and I drive a lot in the city. I hope this car last 10 years cause were keeping it.

  • Ford better idea - 2005 Ford Freestyle

Ive driven it for 1 year. Ford did a bad job advertising this one. Weve made trips; Mobile, AL, Nashville,TN, the mountains of PA. The car handles great. The selling point for us was the seven people seating. You can actually put seven tall people in this one. Handle great in snow rain and sun weather. Weve done them all. The cvt tranny works great, but not advertise well. Car has good power. I set speed at 70; it will do it over hill or level. It works very good back home in the hills of south western PA.

  • My Ford Freestyle Experience - 2005 Ford Freestyle

I have really enjoyed driving this car. It maneuvers well and has plenty of room for my family of five. We have really enjoyed the great gas mileage. We get lots of comments about it, people ask what it is and say they like it, or they say they havent seen one before. Some people say the pickup is not that great, but it has plenty of power to me. We did have a couple of minor problems that required a trip to the service department, but they were quickly repaired. Overall my Freestyle has been a great car, and I would reccomend it to anyone.
