  • CVT trouble - 2005 Ford Freestyle

Just when you think you have bought a reliable family vehicle. I noticed a ticking noise coming from under the hood after a long business trip. When I got back, I decided to have it looked at. I was not even thinking that it could be transmission trouble. Who thinks that at 71,000 miles that you would have transmission trouble? And when I looked to see what the manufacturers warranty was, only 3 years or 36,000 miles???!!! Oh my goodness! You think Ford didnt know that would be a problem? The transmission specialist told me a brand new tranny would cost about $7,000!! I almost choked! What a shame. Please read this and take something from it!

Have had no issues with the vehicle quality. With a full load of adults the vehicle seems to be underpowered. But with 2 adults, 1 kid and all of the child support devices (stroller, toys, etc.) there is no problem. Vehicle was damaged from a road side assistance. Incorrectly jacked the vehicle. Love the fold flat design on the 3rd row. Great design and very easy to use. We did not get the second row center console so that people could walk to the back without having to flip the 2nd row seats. There are already drink holders in the doors so you dont need that center console. I am 61" and 245 and have no issues sitting in the 3rd row Overall the perfect vehicle for us.

Ive driven the Ford Freestyle AWD SE model for 6 months now. I originally was looking for a small truck with a rear seat. I looked at the Ranger and with two young daughters that are still growing, I had an epiphany. I could only think of a few occasions that the truck would really be practical. Having come from driving a Jeep Cherokee and Toyota Tacoma4WD and Saab sedans I knew what all the different types of vehicles had to offer, first hand. Other than giving up the gas mileage of my Saab, Ive come to appreciate the roominess of the Freestyle even when, just last weekend I had me, my wife and two daughters, and three girlfriends, all were seated comfortably. Im happy with it.

I was skeptical about trying the Ford Freestyles 1st year out, however, at this point I am glad that I did. So far I am very happy with it and the ride is smooth and the comfort is great. I had the Explorer years ago and I loved it and the Freestyle reminds me of the ride and comfort of the Explorer only better on gas. I would definitely recommend this car to everyone. I am often stopped and questioned about it. The climate control is great as is the sound quality of the radio and CD player.

  • Finally getting it right - 2005 Ford Freestyle

I must say after being extremely dissapointed with the Explorer,Ford seems to be on the right track. Im 6 2" and have never had more room in any vehicle. Acceleration is good. gas mileage is excellent for a vehicle its size and the trans is extremely SMOOTH. It feels very funny to not feel it shifting. It is also reasonably priced while being loaded up with a lot of goodies. Definately a good buy.

  • Bad Tranny - 2005 Ford Freestyle

I bought the second freestyle available at our local dealership. It was roomy and looked sharp.I enjoyed it with the exception of transmission problems. Took it to dealership and they replaced transmission which I paid for would not help.New tranny at 50k give me a break. Drove 1 mile and turned around it was exactly the same problem. They diagnosed the catalytic converter was the problem and replaced that still charging me for the misdiagnosed tranny. 115k new transmission again. Dumped it cant wait to be Ford Free once my F-150 is gone.

I like to haul several passengers but was tired of pouring $50 bills into the gas tank of my Eddie Bauer Expedition. Checked this and most other crossovers out. Decided to try the Freestyle and have no regrets. It is comfortable, sporty, and has easy access to back seats. It is truly fun to drive. There is little or no road noise. Gas mileage is short of the 27 estimated on the sticker but big improvement from the Expedition. The seating flexibility is unbelievably simple to use. Plenty of room for bulky items. I would highly recommend it!

  • Nice car but a lot of service trips! - 2005 Ford Freestyle
    By -

Over the first 12 months, the car had no mechanical issues. A lot of the interior trim had to be refastened and for a $30K auto thats a little cheap. Probably average 23MPG. Wide open interior make it great for kids and trips, more comfortable than the Explorer. BUT after 1 year things started to go wrong. Issues with brakes, traction control, oxygen sensor. Has been in for unscheduled service 4 times in the last 4 months. Left us sitting on the highway once, almost crashed when traction control went out. And...the CD changer stinks. I would NOT recommend buying this vehicle, at least not a 2005. Unless you want to buy mine.
