This Year's Model Updates:

The new model year ushers in some significant changes for the 2005 Ford Focus. Exteriors have been updated with revised fascias and trim, and the car's oddball interior design has been replaced by more sedate and sophisticated furnishings. Last year's diverse engine lineup has been scrapped in favor of an all-new PZEV-rated 2.0-liter power plant good for 136 horsepower. A performance-oriented ST sedan has been added to take the place of the discontinued SVT Focus hatchbacks; it features a 151-hp incarnation of last year's excellent 2.3-liter PZEV engine. The 2.3-liter loses its squeaky-clean PZEV rating, however. In other news, the typically confusing array of trim levels and packages has been organized into logical and consistent trim lines, standardized across all body styles. New audio systems, increased interior storage and tweaked suspension tuning round out this year's midcycle makeover.

Pros:
  • Spacious and comfortable interior, fun-to-drive character, sharp steering, smooth ride, impressive selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:

  • My focus on my Focus - 2005 Ford Focus

The 05 version of the Focus is 100 times greater than its previous year models. All the kinks are worked out and Ford has added new perks to make this version fun to drive and inexpensive to own. Plus, if you factor in all of Ford rebates, this car is a steal!!!

this was my first new vehicle. in less than 2 weeks it was in service. then it was in service every other week for one issue or another. my personal vehicle was in service for a rattling noise in rear area transmission probs rear hatch not locking dome light turning on whenever it felt like it... i wont go into my experience with the service department. in short, my car was back at the dealership longer than me driving. filed lemon lawsuit ford could not buy back- so they issued a settlement check. although it is a spacious vehicle, do not buy- resale value blows not to mention reliability. if you do buy, make sure you get gap insurance!! many service depts still cant fix hatch probs.

  • Fun to Drive, Easy to Park - 2005 Ford Focus

Great little car with sporty handling, good fuel economy, and lots of flexible space. It parks in spaces too tight for most other available cars except the cramped Mini and cheap Chevy Aveo. Its got better handling than and a ride superior to the Hyundai Elantra, the Scion triplets (though the boxy XB has more and more flexible interior space), and other cars in its class. It doesnt have the cramped feeling of the Corolla, the Pontiac Vibe, the Civic.

This is a very underrated wagon. It is cheaper than most but has almost everything you need.

Not impressed with the cheap tires I had to replace after 25,000 miles. Brakes have been replaced twice within first two years. Just took it in for its 30,000 mile maintenance and had to pay $600 for the parts and labor. Seems like Im always needing to take it in to have somthing checked out whether its alignment or brakes. For a car that was rated well by Consumer Reports, I am not all that impressed by the Focus. I was hesitant to buy a Ford but took the chance. Not sure Im happy I did. The "fun" aspects of the car dont make up for its flaws.

  • Any excuse to drive it - 2005 Ford Focus

I cant remember the last time I owned a car that is so much fun to drive. I went from an extended cab four wheel drive pickup truck to my ZX3 and dont regret that decision at all. I am glad that I got the manual transmission, however. I had the opportunity to drive a Focus with the automatic while on a business trip, and the difference is quite obvious. I highly recommend the Focus and have already decided that I will be getting another one when my son gets this one in a few years.

  • Love my car - 2005 Ford Focus

The Focus was my first brand new car. I have not had one single problem with it since Ive bought it. My husband has a Honda Civic and my car is by far more comfortable, roomy, handles better and less noisy. I commute almost 2 hours a day and my car has been perfect. It even took me through my entire pregnancy comfortably. The car is quite fuel efficient - I only fill up once a week. The stereo system is very clear as well! Have spent many long hours on roadtrips and it has been comfortable and great on the highway! A great car. The only thing is the dashboard is kind of cheaply done and is getting worn looking. Some difficulty in bad weather.

  • The Perfect Car - 2005 Ford Focus

What a smooth ride! Its FAST and MANEUVERABLE and has great stopping power. It looks GREAT and turns heads. Its very sporty.

  • Nice littler car - 2005 Ford Focus
    By -

With a few little tweeks I can get About 38-40 mpg on the highway at around 65-75Mph. Its not the fastest car but Its absoulutely the best car for fuel economy and reliability. I put over 33,000 miles on it in 24 months, and it still run great. Road noise is a problem but $350 or less if you do it yourself will fix the problem (Road noise foam or strips).

  • Easy Transition - 2005 Ford Focus
    By -

I previously owned a Ford Escort and was reluctant on going to the Focus. The transition has been wonderful! I love the way the car handles, its very quiet, I love the speedvolume and the size of the car. Its spacious and comfortable!
