This Year's Model Updates:

The new model year ushers in some significant changes for the 2005 Ford Focus. Exteriors have been updated with revised fascias and trim, and the car's oddball interior design has been replaced by more sedate and sophisticated furnishings. Last year's diverse engine lineup has been scrapped in favor of an all-new PZEV-rated 2.0-liter power plant good for 136 horsepower. A performance-oriented ST sedan has been added to take the place of the discontinued SVT Focus hatchbacks; it features a 151-hp incarnation of last year's excellent 2.3-liter PZEV engine. The 2.3-liter loses its squeaky-clean PZEV rating, however. In other news, the typically confusing array of trim levels and packages has been organized into logical and consistent trim lines, standardized across all body styles. New audio systems, increased interior storage and tweaked suspension tuning round out this year's midcycle makeover.

Pros:
  • Spacious and comfortable interior, fun-to-drive character, sharp steering, smooth ride, impressive selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:

  • Great basic car - 2005 Ford Focus

My 2002 Focus 4dr SE had no problems during its 53,000 miles. When the lease was up, I purchased the 2005 SES 4 door. This is a great basic car with good handling, good acceleration, and suprisingly comfortable on a long trip. I would rather own a Vette, but I need the Focus and it is a great value.

A six-speed auto tranny would boost mileage. Seat belt for driver hard to snap into holder due to console. Auto up/down on both front side windows would help as would rear disk brakes. But, somehow, its great fun to drive!

  • Great bang for the buck - 2005 Ford Focus

I definitely didnt imagine two weeks ago that Id walk away with a car for less than $15k (after rebates and discounts) as great as the Focus has been thus far. Its comfortable, has many of the options that I wouldnt have expected in a "economy" car, and most importantly doesnt feel cheap. I bought this as a commute/winter car because my Camaro wasnt cutting it, and thus far the Camaro has sat parked while I have enjoyed driving this car.

  • 2005 ST - 2005 Ford Focus

Ive had my ST for a couple of months now and its a real blast to drive. My wife got the basic model and I got the ST and Id recommend the ST for it has a much tighter feel for the road. (and a bit quicker). I havent had a 5 speed in yrs and I forgot how much fun they are while getting better gas mileage also. The heated leather seats are a real plus and the stereo really cranks!

  • Great deal, but rife with rust! - 2005 Ford Focus

For the price, this car cant be beat, if you value the same things I value, which are 5 speed performance, hatch back functionality, clean and modern interior, low maintenance, and reasonable gas mileage. The 5 speed is very quick. The handling is very good. The tires stick well, work great in the rain, and arent too noisy. The interior has clean lines, functional controls, and good shades of grey. The seats are well designed, firm, and very comfortable for my 510", 240lb body. (my 52", 110lb girlfriend likes them too!)

  • Very peppy car - 2005 Ford Focus

I love my car. I have no regrets of buying this car since day one. It has a great amount of power for such a little car. I love everything about this car. I would recommend the Focus ST to anyone that still needs a sedan but also wants a little power

Sporty, Quick and a blast to drive, and handles like it is on a rail! what more can you ask for?

  • LOVE IT - 2005 Ford Focus

Bought my Focus in January. I love it. Had a Chevy, Kia and Buick before this one and the Focus is a million times better. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a reliable and affordable vehicle. Even for a car that isnt a sports car, it is still sporty. Easy to drive, very comfortable, responds well. My husband & I are both tall and this car is still very comfortable for us. Center console is a little awkward to get into, but that is the only thing that could stand improvement.

  • 2K5 ZX5 - 2005 Ford Focus

I love the styling of the ZX5. It has a Euro flare to it and is a lot of fun to drive. After driving a sedan for several years a smaller car is a joy to drive. The Focus is a great car.

I bought the car in Nov. 2004. I had to take it the dealer to have transmission work. There was a transmission leak due to (slip boot cover?) had to be replaced. Transmission also had a rumbling noise when car reached speeds of over 35 mph. Apparently, the transmission was sitting on the axle and they had to take out the whole transmission and reposition it. I am glad I had the warranty to cover all of the repairs. Sometimes it is hard to shift (clutch gets stuck).
