This Year's Model Updates:

Four new Focus models debut for 2002: the ZX5 five-door hatchback, the well-equipped ZTW wagon, the sport-tuned SVT hatchback and the Mach Audio ZTS. No matter what Focus you pick in 2002, a power moonroof can now be ordered. The high-end ZTS Sedan loses its standard ABS and crummy fake wood dash trim while gaining a rear spoiler. An in-dash six-disc CD changer is standard on ZX5, ZTS and ZTW but optional on all other Foci except the LX Sedan.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:

  • Use caution - 2002 Ford Focus

Second hand purchase. A good buy although the clutch needed replacing after only 68,000 miles. Rear window motor needed replacing although it was barely used - not cheap. Nice for the money. You could buy two of these for a little more than it would cost for one Toyota, and be better off. Good handling and visibility, good heat. Not much pickup give yourself room on the freeway. Caution: when you drive this car in snow, youre going to feel like youre on roller skates!

  • THIS IS MY SECOND FOCUS - 2002 Ford Focus

This is my 2nd Focus. I got the Sony Edition 4-door-sedan in 2000, and had such a great experience with it that when I decided that I wanted more room, I opted NOT to get an SUV. I LOVED my car but wanted more space, a sunroof (not an option in 2000), and the ability to listen to more than 1 CD. I know that there have been recalls on the Focus in the past, but my new one was NOT part of any of them so far. Now if they only made a convertible version.....

Sexy car for a great price. I had many friends rudely tell me I made a wrong choice and that I should have bought a honda civic. Well, how can I? I bought it, so I must deal with it - so quick complaining! Its not your car!! Anyway! :) Besides the breaking, everything is fine. Generally, the car is noisy when stopping. Although the breaks do not squeak, I can hear from underneath my car each little push I make on the pedel.

  • Lots of fun all year long! - 2002 Ford Focus

This car is really fun to drive all year long, except when it snows! (I definitely need to buy snow tires this winter) Seat heaters are nice even in the summer because they relieve the tensions of a daily commute. The car sounds awesome for just being a 4- banger.

  • Great until now - 2002 Ford Focus

Vehicle has been great up to now. It has 75,000 miles. I have driven a mix of city and highway with minimal problems. A few weeks ago the car begain sputtering upon starting. Typically it would go away in a few minutes. This past Monday it got worse. When I pushed the accelerator it was as though it was not connected. Mechanic replaced the ignition coil but this did not solve the problem. They do not know what the problem is.

  • Id do it again - 2002 Ford Focus

I bought my car new in 2002 and Id do it again. It has pep and rides and drives great. The controls are easy to operate and the overall comfort is nice on trips. The few minor issues were corrected within warranty. Maintenance has been easy and thats a lot said at 100K miles. I have considered trading recently, but with the economy being so volatile I am quite comfortable staying in my Focus. I have every confidence in it getting me where I need to go. The mileage is OK: 26 average in town and 29- 31 on the hwy. Ive had 2 fairly major accidents and feel confident in the safety of the car.

  • Small Price = Good Buy - 2002 Ford Focus

I bought my ZX3 7 years ago at age 16 and have only encountered one problem with it besides regular maintainence. At 36K, the front half-shafts went bad, but since they were replaced, its been smooth sailing. I have made many engine modifications, as well as bigger wheels and a lower suspension, and the car has been fantastic. This vehicle is really worth the money.

this is a new car, have had it a couple weeks, and find it to be a very good driver, fun, even. Instrument placement is good, stereo w/6cd a no charge bonus. My only negative comment, and caveat to future buyers, is to check the upholstery for bad seam work. Day two, I noticed that the upper back seat back, had a 3 inch defect in the upper corner seaming, i could place three fingers in the hole, so beware of the stitch work. Personally i didnt sign off on the purchase order until the dealer orderred a new seat cover for the rear upper seat. This they did reluctantly, hopefully thats the only gremlin to be found. We like the car very much!

  • Fun to drive, but not solidly built. - 2002 Ford Focus
    By -

I purchased this car 2 years old, and was blown away by the power and performance of this little gem compared to the Kia Rio that I had just test driven. The handling is superb its just so much fun to drive! The size of the car is really deceiving from the outside. I have moved a 6 ft countertop in this thing! Im a little disappointed with some of the repairs I had to do: O2 sensor, new tires (60K mile warranty, ha!), completely new brakes down to the rotors. It is now in the shop again because the acceleration died last week. The carpet is also pulling away from the trim and the rubber seals around both front doors have cracked and are coming loose. Still, not bad for 6 years old!
