This Year's Model Updates:

Four new Focus models debut for 2002: the ZX5 five-door hatchback, the well-equipped ZTW wagon, the sport-tuned SVT hatchback and the Mach Audio ZTS. No matter what Focus you pick in 2002, a power moonroof can now be ordered. The high-end ZTS Sedan loses its standard ABS and crummy fake wood dash trim while gaining a rear spoiler. An in-dash six-disc CD changer is standard on ZX5, ZTS and ZTW but optional on all other Foci except the LX Sedan.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:

  • Fun to dirve - 2002 Ford Focus

I was looking to trade in my SUV for something more fun to drive and that got better gas mileage. So far I am nothing but impressed with the car, as it is super fun to drive and has great styling and gets good gas mileage. I even have a C5 Corvette in the garage, and I would rather drive this car day in day out. Bottom line is that this is a great sports car, before you even consider the great price.

  • A great car, few if any, problems - 2002 Ford Focus

Overall it is hands down a great buy. I have heard horro stories about the focus from different people, plus on this site, i say quit knocking the car, you paid less than 17 grand for the thing, what do you expect? Especially those of you that got it when it first came out! IT WAS A DEBUT VEHICLE, HELLOOOO, were taliin about kinks and bugs that have to be worked out. just like when the new cougar rolled out, they had plenty of problems. the focus is a great, fun and stylish car to drive.

5 months of nothing but fun so far. Im 6 5" 265# and I am comfortable. You have to wind it up a little but it goes. Turn a corner on a whim. Wanted the Power w/o moonroof couldnt find (cut just a bit too much of the headroom). I got a really fantastic deal on a really nice package. To get more you go to Elantra GT and then Golf TDI. It wasnt worth the $$$ to me to risk the Hyundai and the VW guys didnt want to talk about deals. Some say you get what you pay for ... I think I got more w/o paying very much at all.

Its a very average car. Decent pep. Dependable transportation. Poor gas mileage (27 hwy)

  • Nice Car...fun to drive! - 2002 Ford Focus

So far I have only put 1,000 miles on this car in a little less than a month. I have been very happy with this car having previously owned a 2000 Ford Contour. This Focus ZX5 is getting better to drive each day as the engine continues to break in. I would also like to add that this car handles very well.

My brakes worned out quickly and I dont think for a new car brakes going out so quickly is safe for anyone. Also its a slow car at first but then it picks up.

I really like this car alot. Its fun to drive and handles really well since I had it only 6 weeks. I would definetly recommend this car for somebody who wants to spend between 14 and 15 thousands for a compact car.

  • I like this car - 2002 Ford Focus

After 22,000 miles I finally admit to myself: I am in love with this car. At first I was I was a little disappointed with the gas mileage. 25 miles / gallon on highway is not that much. But this is getting better as the car gets more experienced. In average over 22,000 miles the car is at 27,5 miles / gallon now tendency rising. The reliability was not an issue. All I had to do was to change the oil every 5000 miles. But the best about this car is the ride. Smooth. The best car I ever had. Excellent cornering speed, quiet ride, and macho acceleration if needed. It is a small car, but for me: long commute, usually alone, this is the car.

  • Feels like an import! - 2002 Ford Focus

I just bought this car a week ago and overall very impressed with the car. It drives very smooth and feels very solid. The Zetec engine is very quiet and smooth with lots of torque. Acceleration is very smooth and doesnt feel as powerfull due to how quiet the engine sounds and feel. If there is anything negative about the car would be the quality of the finishing due to the fitting of the plastic trim and possibly the quality control as I just had a wheel alignment at 300 Miles.

  • Shoddy Brakes - 2002 Ford Focus
    By -

I was very disappointed to find out Ford makes lightweight rotors designed to be replaced with EVERY brake job. Ive never had to replace rotors on a car before, as long as I changed the pads early enough to forstall any brake problems, but the Ford Focus rotors are junk! Go buy some decent rotors and pads from NAPA auto supply, and use those instead- they will perform better and last longer than the dealership parts. Ford Focuses (Foci?) are not built to last. A prime example of built-in planned obsolescence. I am also disappointed in how fast the resale value plummeted.
