This Year's Model Updates:

The F-150 is fully redesigned for 2004. It's bigger, more powerful and offers a greater variety of features and body styles than ever before.

Pros:
  • Exceptional ride and handling characteristics, attractive and functional interior designs, multiple cab and bed configurations, most payload and towing capacity in the half-ton class.
Cons:
  • Feels sluggish even with larger V8, no available side airbags, not much interior storage space.

  • Issues but cool - 2004 Ford F-150

Nice pickup but milage is worse than my 2001 F-150. Been to the dealership twice, both times unit would not start and went into engine failure mode, at this time Ford has no fix for this issue.

Its a good handling truck overall. The only thing is it wears tires out fast and the front end shakes a lot. The engine at 100,000 miles had a tune up and it cost 1,800 dollars we had to replace 3 coils on the plugs. At 116,000 miles the motor went out and we spent 7,000 dollars on a new motor. The Ford company says the motors have very tight tolerances and have no room for error. The oil gummed up in the oil pan and stopped up the return tubes not allowing the oil to drain back down to the bottom end. So the oil pump failed and the cam phasers went then the bottom end. Most mechanics say its a bad design on the motor.

I had a 2000f150 that was great no problems at all, then we went with the new design 2004 f150,dash rattles (dealer cant fix), brakes make noise( dealer says they all do), paint falling off at 1200 miles( dealer says wait till summer to re paint)Been in the shop 5 times already with less than 1300 miles,And the biggest disapointment is the fuel mileage, the 2000 f150 i had got 15 to 18 mpg the 2004 f150 now gets about 7 mpg and at best 10 mpg (dealer says nothing wrong with motor)

  • Customer neglect is Job #1 - 2004 Ford F-150

We bought the 04 FX4 new. For the first year it was great. Since then it has evolved into total junk. Use is very light duty and no offroad. At 25K brakes and rotors needed replaced. The AC barely works. At 46K the tranny needed rebuilt and Ford did not see a problem with that nor were they interested in my complaint. Window motors and the main switches plus u- joints replaced at the same time. This on top of $650 for the 45K mi service. Now the rear diff clutch pack is going. taking off from a stop while turning causes the truck to shudder until straightened out. With 48K now on the odo it has turned into a rattle trap. I should have payed the difference and gone back to a Toyota!

  • Ford spark plug problems - 2004 Ford F-150

Really have liked the truck bought new and its many features. Truck is a supercab and its very comfortable. However its latest feature - spark plugs that blow completely out of the engine- have really changed my mind about Fords build quality or lack thereof. Not only is it absurd that a spark plug can blow out of the engine but equally absurd how much it costs to repair. Ford recommends replacing the defective aluminum head with a new defective aluminum head rather than owning up the problem and recalling the many vehicles with their modular engine. Just search blown out spark plug and witness the amount of complaints with both trucks and cars with this engine.

  • Last Ford Ill ever own. - 2004 Ford F-150

I loved the truck for the first year, then it all changed. The paint is peeling, the spark plugs got stuck in the heads, the fuel pump went bad, the rear slips and whines, it passes everything but a gas station, and Ford will not stand by their products. I would like to trade in the truck for a Tundra, but the trade in value is too low.

  • Look at another manufacturer - 2004 Ford F-150

I have owed 3 Ford trucks. I will not own a 4th. Ford failed miserably with this redesign. Problems I have are: Water leak on passenger side, replaced IWE solenoid and both ruined wheel ends $750, Rebuild rear due to loud whine $800, fix cam phasers (makes the 5.4 engine sound like a diesel) for $1300. These bills does not include the rotors that need repaired and the calipers that need replaced. Check the Ford TSBs. They are aware of these major problems but offer no assistance with repairs. They must be major issues because on 2 of my 3 repairs the parts were backordered. Trust me - Do NOT own an F-150 that is out of warranty. If it is under warranty, be ready to be without your truck - A LOT.

  • Well,so far............................. - 2004 Ford F-150

I really do not need a truck which is what I found out about an SUV and this fresh looking vehicle seemed the place to start to see if truckdom will work out.If it does not at least it will have some residual value come time to sell.Ive not had it long enough to tell any tales yet.My first Ford and based on the wifes experiences with her 2 Escapes Im more concerned with customer service and support which has been miserable for my wife.

  • F-150 Still strong after all these years - 2004 Ford F-150

good truck. bit shabby on internal workmanship but still a strong truck.

  • ouch!!! my back. - 2004 Ford F-150
    By -

The ford f-150 is a good truck but the fact after driving it for a week my back seized and I was on the floor for 2 days. Ouch!!! I think their ment either for smaller men or really fat guys. The back support is in all the wrong places. If they use seats more like the ones in the dodge caravan Id love it. But I cant drive it for very long so I am forced to get rid of it. Ford wasnt helpful at all. They more or less told me I was screwed. Ive asked other ford owners and theyve had said there seats killed there backs also. I used to drive ford van for work at it was the same way.
