This Year's Model Updates:

A new King Ranch SuperCab arrives for 2002, joining the SuperCrew version near the top of the F-150 food chain. All King Ranch trucks get lighted visor mirrors with a HomeLink universal transmitter and a Travel Note recording device, while KR SuperCrews have automatic climate control and an available second-row bench seat that replaces the standard rear captain's chairs. Get the Harley-Davidson edition for a supercharged 5.4-liter Triton V-8 engine that adds 80 horsepower and new styling cues in the form of flame pin striping and chrome accessories, a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the label and rivets surrounding the center cap of the 20-inch wheels. The lower-line F-150 XL gets standard air conditioning, and its 4.2-liter V6 receives a ULEV rating. An FX4 off-road equipment package can be added to XLT or Lariat 4WD models and includes upgrades like Rancho shocks, skid plates, special wheels and unique trim. Carryover improvements from late 2001 include seat-mounted seatbelts on SuperCabs, child seat-tether anchors and rear head restraints on SuperCrew models. Also added late in 2001 were optional heated front seats (XLT and Lariat), a power sunroof (XLT and Lariat SuperCab and Crew) and a rear-seat entertainment system (XLT and Lariat SuperCrew).

Pros:
  • Wide range of configurations and features, capable powertrains and suspension, attractive styling inside and out.
Cons:
  • Everybody and his brother has one.

Made a mistake. This truck has no power but still only gets 12 to 13 MPG.

  • 3rd F150 in a row and never again - 2002 Ford F-150
    By -

This truck has left me on the road 4 times now the last time was 2nd tranny I had dealer installed. I have been left on the road for 2 throttle position sensors as well. I have an oil burning issue also it uses about a litre each week. I have had bullit proof f150s before like the 1976, the 1984, and the 1999. I had the most success with the 1984 and 1976. I am going to Toyota I think next time. I have 100 000 miles plus on the 2002 and once the lease is up it is outta here... The heated seats and mirrors do not work and never have. Many plastic interior pieces are broken or not working. The drivers side door locks broken too now.

  • Fords are junk - 2002 Ford F-150
    By -

I read a lot of the reviews, some say it would be great if not for XXXX. I say it is lousey truck because: At 20K it needed a complete brake job, rotors, included and the seat plastic clips broke. At 40000, clutch went out. Mose said it was a old truck (at 4.5 year?). I have had others last over 200K. At 52K, brakes start acting up. Needed a new brake job, did the pads and turned the rotors. At just under 60K, Brakes are acting up again, and the shops says replacement or rotors is needed. At this rate the cost of repairs is over 1/2 the cost of the truck. Toyota here I come, let the usa auto go under, who needs the junk?? My 4th and last ford

  • Dont Buy! - 2002 Ford F-150

The automatic transmission had to be replaced before the truck had 3000 miles. The four wheel drive is not as good as the competitions. The engine lacks power and the fuel economy is poor.

  • Dont buy a Ford F-150 - 2002 Ford F-150

Dont buy this vehicle, because (2) Ford Dealerships and the manufacturer will not take responsibility for a product that I spent $31,000 on.

  • FOMOCO warranty next to worthless - 2002 Ford F-150

Vehicle has had rear end whine since new, caused by irregular gear wear. Ford has been unable or unwilling to successfully fix vehicle. The whine continues to get louder with mileage. I am now faced with taking the financial loss of Fords defect because they refused to.

  • Terrible Automatic Transmission - 2002 Ford F-150
    By -

The transmission modulater is terrible. It hangs up in gears or just sits in a big dead spot and nothing changes. The dealer "pinged" the unit but other than that T.S. I had to accelerate quickly to complete a merge manuever and almost got hit because the transmission just refused to shift down quickly. Ford has had problems with this for years and there is no excuse for this. Im getting rid of the truck.

  • 2002 Ford Lightning - 2002 Ford F-150

I was totally happy with my purchase of this truck through a non SVT Ford dealer. The local SVT dealer manager was a pompus jerk and there is no way I would give him my business. Like the truck and look forward to buying the new 2004 edition with 500 HP!

  • Stalls when wet - 2002 Ford F-150
