The 2008 Ford Edge gets more luxury and convenience features. Highlights include Ford's "Sync" system (which allows voice operation of cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players and USB storage devices), an optional power liftgate and a voice-activated navigation system. This year also sees a new Limited trim level, which replaces last year's SEL Plus.

Pros:
  • Quiet and comfortable ride, agile handling, potent V6, all major safety features are standard, roomy cabin.
Cons:
  • Questionable brakes, lackluster interior design and materials, low maximum cargo capacity.

  • Sweet! - 2008 Ford Edge

After looking at Saturn, Mazda, Cadilac, Buick, and Ford Crossovers, the Edge was and pleasant and impressive surprise. A great riding and handling vehicle with a well- engineer interior space to seat its riders. My wife was immediately drawn to the luxurious look and feel of the stone colored leather and the pearlescet white sand mica paint. The 20" tires with their chrome clad wheels gives the Edge a final touch of sophistication and well-connectedness. Engine is quiet and responsive with all the power you need. No jerkiness, no hesitation, and one of the smoothest transmissions weve ever experienced. Beats our Lexus RX330 all over the place. The panoramic moonroof-a real wowzer!

I traded a 05 Freestyle for the 08 Edge. I test drove 09 Murano, Mazda CX-7, Acura RDX. Decided for the Edge because of the lower lease payments (+ X-plan), vista roof, and some other features. Exterior design also a plus. However I have to admit the 09 Murano drives much better and has a better finishing, unfortunately too expensive and premium fuel. The Edge engine and 6 speed auto-trans. is a huge leap from my old engine with the CVT. I read some reviews saying not refined, slow, etc.. for the Edge/MKX. Maybe not the best ever but I am very happy and suprised with its performance.

I couldnt be happier with my Edge. Great visibility and looks. The 20 inch wheels look great too. What a pleasure to finally drive American.

At first I was a little worried about down sizing from the Ford Expedition that I have had for 5 years, but I now love it. It would be even better if it got better gas mileage. I love how it handles and looks. I think the engine sounds a little funny but I think it is because it is a 6 cyl. Overall I love it..

Bought this car after looking at Honda CRV and Jeep Compass. Too many CRVs on the road! I love this car! I get compliments all the time. Its fun to drive. Mileage could be better but most of mine is city driving. My only complaint would be with getting in the car.I am of short stature- 52 and getting in would be easier if there were a handle to grab on the top.

  • The should I keep it or sell it decision for 8 yr - 2008 Ford Edge

The Edge still is a very comfortable cars after 5 years of ownership. This review is more for folks who are considering trading in or selling, and potential buyers. The PTU is notorious in the AWD, hence the drop in resale values. Ford dealerships refuse to drain and fill the gear oil. Please get this done every alternate engine oil change at a lube ot transmission shop, it is cheap insurance for PTU longevity. Suck out and refill through the fill plug. The TSS/OSS sensors will go out on this transmission, the transmission itself is rock solid. Spark plug change is a must at 80-90k miles, otherwise you risk a PCM failure. So if you are a buyer wanting to keep their Edge longer or seller doing their due diligence on buying it uses, pleae keep these factors in mind! Any other issues are to be expected in most used cars.

  • Good family starter - 2008 Ford Edge

A good vehicle for its value. Nothing in it is really going to blow you away with class or "piz-az", but it performs as advertised. The 3.5L V6 has enough guts to help you get around slow moving vehicles quickly, but again, wont amaze with speed. It averaged about 21 mpg for us, a little under what we thought it would, but not bad at all. The leg room is good up front in my opinion (but I like to sit up close for a 62" male), however the rear is a little cramped for bigger adults, but fine for averaged sized people and kids. I always felt cargo space was a little small but we always had to fit a big dog into the vehicle plus our cargo. (But thats our problem and has nothing against the vehicle.) We had a few electrical issues with the BCM (Body Control Module) that was about $600 fix, at about 75,000 miles, but other than that everything worked great. If your just starting off and have a growing family, this is a great car for you!
