This Year's Model Updates:

The 2008 Ford Edge gets more luxury and convenience features. Highlights include Ford's "Sync" system (which allows voice operation of cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players and USB storage devices), an optional power liftgate and a voice-activated navigation system. This year also sees a new Limited trim level, which replaces last year's SEL Plus.

Pros:
  • Quiet and comfortable ride, agile handling, potent V6, all major safety features are standard, roomy cabin.
Cons:
  • Questionable brakes, lackluster interior design and materials, low maximum cargo capacity.

  • Loved the car for 8 years, but then.... - 2008 Ford Edge

Beware of the the water pump on the 3.5L engine. Search the internet lots of water pump failures resulting in severe engine damage. I loved this car. I purchased it new, no problems until 92K when the water pump failed with no warning. No warning lights, no fluid leaks. If youre thinking of buying one used with a 3.5L, be sure to have the water pump checked out first.

It is above and beyond my expectations not to be a true luxury vehicle. I like the visibilty it allows with its height. It drives like a sports car but rides like a luxury car. It has a hint of sportiness to it that keeps it from looking like a "grocery getter".

  • Good family starter - 2008 Ford Edge

A good vehicle for its value. Nothing in it is really going to blow you away with class or "piz-az", but it performs as advertised. The 3.5L V6 has enough guts to help you get around slow moving vehicles quickly, but again, wont amaze with speed. It averaged about 21 mpg for us, a little under what we thought it would, but not bad at all. The leg room is good up front in my opinion (but I like to sit up close for a 62" male), however the rear is a little cramped for bigger adults, but fine for averaged sized people and kids. I always felt cargo space was a little small but we always had to fit a big dog into the vehicle plus our cargo. (But thats our problem and has nothing against the vehicle.) We had a few electrical issues with the BCM (Body Control Module) that was about $600 fix, at about 75,000 miles, but other than that everything worked great. If your just starting off and have a growing family, this is a great car for you!

  • Open airbag recall cannot be fulfilled by Ford - 2008 Ford Edge

The strong engine is the only good thing about this vehicle. Electronics are not great. MAF failure. Bluetooth on early SYNC is not great. Goofy interior plastics. Also, the "Sealed" transmission is not serviceable in the vehicle. Not good. Then the recalls came in waves... finally I didnt feel comfortable having my family riding around in a vehicle with a potentially faulty airbag. So I ditched this thing and got into a different manufacturers new SUV.

My daughter talked me into looking at this car/suv and I love driving it. It is so quiet, no road noise, rides smooth, beautiful interior, love the hands free phone system, navigation system (still have to learn this). Like the tailgate automatic lift & closure, automatic seats that lay down in the back.If you havent looked at this vehicle you are missing something special. Oh dont miss the full moon/sun roof its really different.

I love the nav, bluetooth..fully loaded. Great on the road. Wish it had a 3rd row seating then I would have been fully satisfied.

  • Great Car with Recent and Alarming Issues - 2008 Ford Edge
    By -

I have a 2008 Ford Edge with 55k miles - 3 Times in the Last year when I have been attempting to accelerate- All of my warning lights turn on - My spedometer gets stuck at zero, and I am unable to accelerate above 5 miles per hour for a significant, and dangerous amount of time. Took car into shop and they were unable to find any issues. Looking online it seems many other people have had the same problem and ford is unable, or unwilling to address the issue. Very Dangerous.

  • What a Surprise - 2008 Ford Edge

I have owned mainly imports and was hesitant. I was leaning towards the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander and stopped at Ford dealer at whims notice. The test drive sold me and I bought it that day. First thing I noticed is the styling is beautiful and not overly generic & boring as the Pilot and Highlander. The interior was the same and exuded the same luxury as the RX330 I previously owned. The acceleration was amazing and ride felt confident and supple. There is something about this car that I love over every car I have owned. Hard to explain...it has soul and does not feel like an appliance. I get compliments everywhere I go. I see more and more of them in Atlanta.
