This Year's Model Updates:

A few functional upgrades take place. The 3.2-liter V6 is dropped as the 3.5-liter engine becomes an option on the ES model, a new SXT model debuts, sporting the R/T's higher-output engine, and the antilock brakes now have Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.

Pros:
  • Plenty of passenger/luggage capacity, agile handling, powerful engines.
Cons:
  • Dated ergonomics, blind spots when backing up, engine noise when pressed.

I just purchased my 2002 ES Intrepid with 20,000 already on it it was in a rental fleet prior to purchase. I have always wanted one of these cars since the new design came out, and now I own one. Being newly divorced I wanted something sexy and I feel this is the Car for us in our forties "hey any ladies" The car has not given me one problem yet it is very sound and well constructed, no rattles even after being a rental. I believe Chrysler listened to their customers on this one. I am a Quality Engineer in aircraft manufacture for planes that cost millions, and the attention to detail for the cost of this car is right on the mark.

After 19000 trouble free miles, its still perfect! No warranty or other repairs and the 100,000 mile warranty is a comfort. Its a great car, good on gas, great looks, comfortable as hell. After several Bad experiences with Taurus and Ford in the past, I bought this because of the warranty and was pleasantly surprised by how great the car turned out as a nice vehicle.

The Intrepid ES with leather and 4-disc- in-dash cd changer and moonroof has plenty of comfort and room.

Crash integrity is excellent. Front end crash at 50mph resulted in very little damage to vehicle. A second crash of a direct side impact crumpled the front end and engine compartment made the car unrepairable. The only injuries received was a brused knee and sprained ankle on my wife. This was a 1996 Intrepid I know own a 1999 and a brand new 2002.

  • I love this car - 2002 Dodge Intrepid

I bought my first Intrepid SE with all the xtras and I love it!! It is fun to drive, roomy. Gas mileage could be a little bit better. The car is extremely comfortable, very easy to handle. Rear visibility and car length makes parking difficult -- but easy to get over considering that this car is so great. I am happy I bought this car!!

This is to give you some idea of living with one of these for awhile. This has been a very comfortable car, with great features and good looks. Handles well, looks sporty for a sedan and has plenty of room. Problems have been two: 1. Transmission speed sensor went out at 33,000 miles, had to be towed to dealer. Warranty covered it. 2. AC compressor went out at 42,000 miles, Warranty expired.

We have a big family, so I needed a vehicle that would seat 6, but did not want a 2nd minivan or big boat. I wanted something with the room but still fun to drive. Quickly narrowed the search to the Impala, Bonneville and Intrepid. After long test drives, the Intrepid seemed the obvious choice. Great styling, good handling, fairly powerful engine. Its been dependable and for the price, you cant find a car that gives you more.
