  • Excellent crash test scores.
  • Low monthly fuel cost in normal driving

  • Great commuter, fun - 2013 Chevrolet Volt
    By -

Great commuter, constant 50 mile summer range, 35 miles in winter, best 59.3 miles. Bought with 48k miles, now 64k, still less than 80 gallons of gas used, 200 mpg o/a. Overnight charging runs $0.75 per completely discharged battery (35-50 miles), gas ICE backup, 35 to 40 mpg. Nice looking, quick acceleration, low maintenance. No repair issues. Quiet.

  • The money I save on gas is more vs car payment - 2013 Chevrolet Volt
    By -

I purchased this vehicle back in April of 2017. It was 3 years old with 29,000 miles on it. I traded in my Chrysler 200 and applied that towards the $14,500 cost of the vehicle. I was attracted to the leather seating, the bose sound system, and most importantly the fuel economy. I am not someone who has ever been attracted to a hybrid vehicle, the irony of all of this is that I was originally interested in a truck. The car did not feel like a traditional hybrid vehicle : flimsy, light, no features, small, etc. It felt like a luxury vehicle with many options inside the car. I drive an average of 80 miles a day for my commute. I use all electric on my way to work, and then one gallon of gas on my way home. At times I may drive more depending on what location I may be working. I used to spend over $320 a month on fuel. Each time I filled my tank in my old car I would spend $80 a week, sometimes more. With the Volt I spend an average of $20 a week because I dont use anywhere as much fuel. There are other savings, too. I have no had an oil change on the car since I purchased it because the mileage I accrue is half electric / half gas. I only need an oil change when Ive used 7,000 miles on the engine. I would recommend a used Chevrolet Volt to anyone because the price is half of what you would spend buying a new one, and the payment will pay for itself, and youll still save money while driving in a very nice car. It has a statement when driving it. Only concern I have is that it does not have a spare tire, so I purchased my own spare tire and keep it in the back.

  • Amazing technology in a small package - 2013 Chevrolet Volt

The 2013 Chevy Volt is a small car with a big package! The interior is well made with many features. The drivetrain is the best in its class (PHEV). Its the only PHEV that can use full acceleration without the gas engine coming on until the battery is used up (avg 40 miles). Battery range is less in cold weather. Driving it is still enjoyable after 5 years of ownership and 70K miles. This is the most flexible EV on the road - 30-40 miles of all-electric range with a fully capable gas backup for unlimited travel without waiting for a charge - just fill up with gas in 3 minutes like everybody else and keep on driving!

  • Great technology all electric with gas back up - 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Car is great runs on electric only but if you run out of juice it has a gas engine as back up The back seat is a little tight for tall people but other than that. I have no complaints

  • Great car poor dealership experience - 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Love the car. Fun to drive. Zippy. Havent put any gas in it since I bought it 3 weeks ago. Doesnt stink up the garage like my wifes car when I start it. Usually recharges fully on 110 Volt circuit overnight. The bad. 2 weeks after getting the car the "service airbag" light came in. Took it to the Chevy dealership which was a super poor customer service experience and they told me that the passenger presence system had failed and to fix it would cost $775. No thank you. I will investigate other ways to fix it. The infotainment center is a nightmare and the stock sound system is pathetic. You can forget about finding or changing anything below the screen. Good luck trying to change the radio to usb too. For an almost $40 K new MSRP, they could have put some $12 speakers in instead of $2 ones. Perhaps the GM engineers should actually go out and listen to some music? Same thing for the seats. No lumbar support in a car of this value???? Come on. How long had GM made car seats? Have they learned anything??? No power drivers side seat adjustments either. Guess they skimped to save money. Too bad.

  • 36,000 End of Lease Report - 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Overall, a really nice car, one of the best I ever drove. When you can charge at home and have a work commute less than 40 miles, you can go months without buying gas. Having a car pool lane sticker is great too. We had to move and cant charge at home anymore and my work makes you pay to charge at 3x the rate I was able to charge at home. It is actually cheaper to run the car in ICE mode and use gas. That is why Im not choosing to purchase it or buy another EV car. In EV mode, the instant torque was a blast and is probably the thing I miss the most. The car handled well and was comfortable for long trips. Not sure why we almost never see a Volt on the open road. It gets almost 40 mpg on the highway and can almost go 400 miles on a single tank if I keep it around 65 mph. The trunk space is fine for two people but, with the seats folded down, you can carry a decent amount. Ive been driving purely in ICE mode for the past year and a half and have been averaging about 33 to 35 mpg. The things I wont miss are: only two seats in the back, the front A pillars that reduce visibility, rear visibility not so great either, weak climate control system that drains the battery if you are try to run it full blast, lack of a real cargo cover, rear windshield is like a sunroof so the car can get hot, no spare tire, not so intuitive controls on center console, range-extending ICE engine is really loud, and quirky bluetooth and usb audio functionality.

I bought my Volt used with 50,000 miles on it. (Look at the Lifetime mileage-- that will tell you how often the engine has been used by MPG.) My car only had 40mpg in its lifetime so the engine has lots of hours on it. I didnt really care though as I have a 120 mile commute every day. The resale value sucks on them but that means I bought a great used car for cheap! The first thing that struck me test driving it was how solid it feels. It really feels like a tank but it handles super tight. Interior materials feel to be of good quality (leather is thick, covers the whole seat unlike some other companies *coughdodgecough*, and dash panels are solid and fit together tightly). It is also of course silent when in Normal mode and the generator is relatively quiet when it runs (I only use it on the highway which drowns out engine noise with road noise anyway); its still quieter and smoother than a 4-cylinder. I get about 55mpg in my daily commute and use electric only on weekends when I dont drive far. The increase in my electric bill has been about $10/month. The back seat is cramped but I dont have passengers much. The car also came with the Bose sound system and it sounds fantastic (unlike the POS stock speakers GM insists on using). Ill never know why they opt for a $2 speaker when they could easily eat the cost of a $20 one. Anyway, my biggest gripe is the user interface on the center stack and dash. Its an absolute mess, the biggest clusterf of UX/UI design I have ever seen. Its super dated looking and just vomits information at the driver. The graphics look straight out of 2002. I love access to tons of info on how my car is running, but sheesh. Otherwise, the Volt has been great, super reliable, and a blast to drive especially in Sport mode. My mother in law drove mine and bought one for herself. Be like my mother in law. Drive a Volt.

  • Great 2 person car! - 2013 Chevrolet Volt

  • My review after 3 years of ownership - 2013 Chevrolet Volt
    By -

I purchased my 2013 Volt Premium off lease with 14k miles. Then drove it 85% of the time in electric mode for over 3 years to 65k miles. During this time, the ONLY issue was a passenger seat airbag. This car was super reliable and from reading on GM volt forums was “over built”. Meaning GM could not afford to let this car fail. I have since sold the volt and thinking of purchasing a newer generation or Bolt. I feel confident in GM battery technology and from what I have researched these cars are designed to handle 100,000 charge cycles. At 38-40 miles per charge = 380-400k miles on these batteries. Love the comfort of this car, could be quicker. Tight handling and smooth driving car.
