Overview & Reviews
The Chevrolet Malibu gets a few updates for 2006. Most interesting is a new performance-oriented SS trim level that features a 240-horsepower V6 engine. Chevy has also juggled the existing trim levels: the base model is now called the LS, the former LS is now the LT, and last year's LT is now the LTZ. Other minor changes include freshened front-end styling, new wheel designs, flashier trim pieces for the instrument panel, a new four-spoke steering wheel and standard child security rear door locks on every trim level.
- Smooth ride quality, fuel-efficient engines, plenty of passenger and cargo space, outstanding crash test scores, ample safety and convenience features, innovative remote-start feature.
- Lackluster interior, subpar brakes and steering, base four-cylinder down on power for this class, no stability control or manual gearbox.

My New Malibu - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By IROLLM - October 28 - 11:48 amIve only had the car for a couple months, but it has been a delight. Its quiet, handles well, and the six cylinder engine delivered 36 MPG on a recent 900 mile trip. Ive owned Hondas and driven many Toyotas and I have to say this car is equal to any of them. Plus, you save thousands of dollars over a Honda, and lets face it, Id rather have my money up front and in the bank than tied up in the car and having to trade it in to get the money back. It just makes better monetary sense. Plus, its nice to be driving an American car again.

Put the fun back in driving - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By kevdog - October 26 - 7:50 pmAt 67", this car fits great. The ease of getting into and out of is outstanding. Tons of legroom with the seat slightly reclined. I looked at all makes and models, including full size sedans, and of them all the Malibu was by far these easiest to get into. Plenty of options for the money. More than enough power and great fuel mileage, even if Ive got that lead foot. Used to have a 98 F-150, now enjoy driving again.

Good value - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By Dale - September 28 - 3:14 pmVery comfortable car, particularly for its high gas mileage. The LTZ model is well equipped for the price. The LTZ trim gives life to an exterior styling that is rather ordinary.

Lot of car for the money - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By TimelessImagesSoCal - September 24 - 7:39 pmI looked at Nissan Altima, Toyota Camary, Honda Accord, all with 4cyl and automatic transmission. The Chevrolet Malibu was far better in the class and very affordable, unlike the others. Electric steering, great handling, has plenty of power for a 4cyl. I use 91 octane and for the $.30 extra I am seeing an extra 4 miles in the city and 7 miles more per gallon on the hiway. Wow! If you calculate that I am saving money at 41 mile per- gallon on the hiway at 65 miles an hour

2006 Malibu - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By Bert Mullins - August 25 - 4:33 pmExcellent car. Gas mileage is even better than advertised. Weve gotten up to 39 MPG on the highway, and always get at least 27 MPG in town. Quality is very nice and of a level one would only expect to find from a much more expensive car. The performance is quite nice, even though it is only a four cylinder motor, and it has plenty of room inside. Its not a small car by any means, it just gets the gas mileage of one. We are very pleased with this car.

Great Trade - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By Nick - August 7 - 12:22 amI am a tall/big man. Plenty of room for me. Dumped my H2 for better gas mileage. Completely pleased with the performance, style and GM quality! It drives and handles like a luxury car. One of the best in its price range! My friends think I am driving a $35,000 car! Exceeds expectations. If I want more, Id have to pay more.

Go Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By FL Banker - July 28 - 5:30 pmSmooth ride, exceptional power, drinks gas like a 4 cylinder, very comfortable driving position due to tilt/telescoping wheel, power seat and lumbar adjustment for my back. Headlights are extremely bright (almost like HIDs) and the lighted cruise and radio controls on the steering wheel are not often found even on premium vehicles. Way to go Chevy!

Lots of Fun for Not a Ton (of $) - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By Gene - July 27 - 10:08 pmI cut my performance car teeth on the likes of a Chevelle SS396 and can honestly say that this Malibu SS is a blast to drive. Different of course, but the fun factor has returned. One has to be ready for some pretty heavy torque steer, but once adjusting for that the car can launch "very energetically". The SSs styling and stance are executed very nicely, and it doesnt look like a clone of everything else on the road. The seats are very comfortable, the controls are simple and have a good feel, and it has excellent load capacity, especially in the trunk. The relatively low price for the performance is a definite bonus. Test one, youll like it! Good job, Chevrolet and GM Performance!

Gotta love it! - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By Good thoughts! - July 18 - 11:01 pmGreat car for the money. I love the gas mileage but without the A/C on. I have owned my Malibu for 10 months and am very satisfied with my purchase. I have three children and there is enough room for them all. I highly recommend this car to others looking for a reasonable, cute, car.

Classy Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu
By zak - July 9 - 3:01 pmA very comfortable car to drive with the tilt/telescopic wheel and power height adjustable seat. V6 engine is quite powerful and is averaging about 34 mpg on the highway. City driving is about 20 mpg. Test drove Camry, Altima and Fusion. All were noisier with the 4 cyld and not as peppy, yet cost the same as the V6 Malibu.
