This Year's Model Updates:

The supercharged Impala SS joins the lineup for 2004. Besides offering 240 horsepower, the SS features a tightened suspension to allow it to take corners with a bit more gusto. Base and LS models have redesigned bench and bucket seats, and a sport appearance package is now available on the base sedan.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Vague steering, soggy suspension on base and LS models, low-buck interior.

  • Worn out large car - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Driver seat in the 6 Passenger seating was worn out by 50k miles. Car has no get up and go when cruising. Boring dash. Good sightlines. Big size with great gas mileage. Large trunk. Turn signals do not work all of the time.

The Impala is my company care, and I drive alot of miles. The 180hp motor is OK off the line, but far to weak at hiway speed. Just not enough gutts or should I say tourqe to drive with real command. The real dissapointment is the interior. the seat is uncommfortable and none of the arm rests steering wheel or pedals line up right. The interior alignment in not as well thought out as with other cars I have driven. The Impala is not all bad but the important things are off the mark.

  • Poor brakes - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

I`ve had the car in three times to have the front brake rotors turned.I have had brake performance problems very early. The dealer asked me if my driving habits had changed and I said no and that I got eighty eight thousand miles on my front brakes on my last lumina.

  • OK car, poor mileage, uncomfortable... - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

The seat is very uncomfortable. There is no lumbar support and I could not recommend this car for long trips. The seat only adjusts two ways: front-to- back and seat-back angle adjustment. The road noise and tire whine were very quiet, even at speeds around 75 mph. Ride quality was acceptable, although many small bumps on the highway that other cars had no trouble with caused the Impalas steering wheel to jerk and jitter. There was ample trunk space and rear seat storage space for my equipment. After a quick trip to the gas station the gas milage was a measly 18 mpg, absolutely HORRIBLE for 100% highway driving.

I just traded my 2003 Nissan Altima to get this one because my payments were too high. This car feels like Im driving a boat. I miss the custom leather interior in the Altima and the very stylish ride. Also the gas in this car goes down twice as fast than the Altima.

  • So Far, Not So Good - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Purchased car end of Jan., car in shop within 24 hrs b/c car wont start. Told nothing wrong, 2 days later same occurred, twice. In the garage since. A high volt code is causing electrical spike with anti- theft system, not allowing car to start. Data recoding sensor on car, & console went out/device shorted out. 2 weeks since purchase, GM/dealership unable to fix or replace vehicle. In rental 1+ wk. & have 1st pymt. due <2 wks. on car driven <3 days! Very diappointed! Hope just a lemon for me! In period of time in car, it performed well, driver friendly & good gas mileage. Plenty of leg room, trunk space & style.
