This Year's Model Updates:

The supercharged Impala SS joins the lineup for 2004. Besides offering 240 horsepower, the SS features a tightened suspension to allow it to take corners with a bit more gusto. Base and LS models have redesigned bench and bucket seats, and a sport appearance package is now available on the base sedan.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Vague steering, soggy suspension on base and LS models, low-buck interior.

  • Very Happy - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Ive put 2K miles on my LS, and dont know of anything to complain about, and that is unusual for me. I looked at several other cars seriously - a Camry, Lexus ES 330, Buick La Sabre, and also briefly considered the Equinox. The Camry is a like driving a wagon compared to the Impala. The Buick is a good car, but it looks like you have to live in a retirement village to own it. The Lexus was seriously considered, but it would have been over 10K more, and I dont think it is worth it. The Impala definitely has a more comfortablbe seat, and 200 hp is plenty unless you are drag racing. The Edmonds review almost kept me from considering the Impala - dont listen.

We bought the Impala for the size and value and I think we got it right. I cant tell you how many cars we looked at before we bought it. It drives and looks great. I know there seemed to be a difference in the ride of the base model and the ls model. The ls you just cant complain. I have 2 sons who play sports so I appreciate the trunk room.I would recommend this car to anyone.

  • THE BEST OF THE BEST - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

THIS IS A GREAT CAR I STUDIED IT FOR 0NE YEAR BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. WHAT I LIKED WAS THE SAFETY FEATURES ON IT. THE RIDE IS JUST AS SMOOTH AS THE LARGER AND HIGHER PRICED LUXURY SEDANS, WITHOUT THE BIG PRICE. ON THE ROAD ITS PERFORMANCE IS EXCELLENT, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TO SAY ABOUT THIS CAR, I WOULD RECCOMEND IT TO OTHER DRIVERS WHO WOULD LIKE THE COMFORT AND THE SAFETY. I GIVE THIS CAR A 10.

I finally did it! I traded my 01 Impala LS in for a 04 Impala SS. All I can say is...WOW! I love it! I love it! I love it! It has that extra get up and go when you need it, and it loooks gooood! =) Like I said about my LS (and I do miss him), there is nothing more to life than a good man, good children and a fun car to drive. Semper Fi Chevy! MV

I love this car! I owned the Chev Malibu prior to purchasing the Impala. Im almost 6 feet and my daughter is 61 and we needed more room for comfort. The Impala is roomy and so much fun to drive. I look forward to taking many road trips this summer. I do not regret purchasing this car.

  • Im on my 2nd one, wonderful cars. - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

I have owned 2 of these cars, I bought a 2005 brand new it had 7 mi on it. It lasted until 2015 when the transmission went out at 215K miles. Now that Im retired and not commuting 60 miles a day I decided to buy another one. I now on a 2004 Base with the sports appearance package that had 72,000 mIles (now 77,820) from the original owners. These cars are very reliable, all I did in the 05 was oil changes, tune ups, fuel filters, pretty much preventative maintenence. The only issue with these cars that I have is the transmissions. Around 75,000 miles it begins to slip gears (not skip) all it needs is the solenoids need replaced. I did it on the 2005 and Im planning on doing it on my current 2004 here soon along with a flush, filter change, and fill. I get excellent mileage I can get 22-25mpg with mixed driving and on the recent 500 mile round trip I took to Milwaukee with 100% highway driving with the cruise on 65 I got 30.4 mpg. The ride is wonderful, my wife has a 2013 Nissan Sentra and I cant stand it, it may get wonderful gas mileage, but the ride is harsh and its very small for my long legs I cant get a good seat adjustment. I assume take the Impala. You can buy these for cheap with around 150K miles for about $2500.00, these are definetly worth the money and are almost bullet proof except for the transmission & lower intake gaskets. If you want a nice reliable car that does decent on gas and is minimal on repairs if maintained, then look for one of these, if they were decently taken care of, you can have a wonderful car for a decent price. Even my 2005 wasnt badly priced when it was brand new (around $21,500)

  • Best of the bests - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

I bought 2000,2001,2002,2004 and 2004 impalas. I keep the cars upto 32000 miles and then trade in with a new one. Currently, I have 2004 SS and LS. 2002 was in an accident and car was rolled over 2 times over the hill and 17 years old driver walked away without any scratch on the body. Best ride and money worth car is the Impala car.

  • Good safe family car - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

I bought this car for my wife in January because of its safety rating and that she could easily fit her friends for their frequent outings. It fulfilled all this. The ladies loved their days in it and in the end, the safety rating held up. The car was totaled after just four months. Though the front of the car was taken completely off, there was no damage at all from the windshield wipers back. I just bought her another Impala.
