The North Face package is no longer offered, but an electronic stability control system is now available as part of the Z66 Premium On-Road Suspension package. Hydroboost brakes are now standard on all 1500 series Avalanches and the optional 8.1-liter V8 is now rated at 320 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque.

Pros:
  • Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engines, substantial towing ability.
Cons:
  • Some cheap interior pieces, lifeless steering, limited drivetrain choices.

I bought the truck in July, i mostly got it for the 4 door part of it, its a crew cab with out the long bed, so turning is easier, the ride is good and the looks are excellent,

Nice truck. I love the capability of offroading. I went through 24" of snow and didn’t get stuck. But the EPA estimated fuel mileage not even close truck gets about 8mpg city 12-15mpg EPA estimates are crap and it seems the more gas prices go up the worse the fuel mileage gets, and it’s hard on the wallet. Chevy makes great truck but would get better mileage if they put manual available in the Avalanche and offered a diesel, or just added a 5th gear to the automatic.

I have had a great time with my New Alvalanche. It took me a month just to get use to all the nice gagets and features. I still get a kick out of driving down the highway and making my side mirriors fold in at the same time. The conversion is always a thing of beauty. I have been asked several times to perform the change and I always deliver on the request. When I am behind the wheel I feel large and in charge. The wheel span on this vehicle in incredible. Got Alvalanche Will Travel!

Many have suggested replacing the removable glass with a rear power window that retracts into the midgate. I like the existing design. By lowering the midgate, while leaving the glass and tonneau in place, I get extra load space AND protection from the elements. I love the adjustablity of the drivers seat, especially the lumbar support. Its the most comfortable seat I own. Ive owned trucks with both the 5.7 and 5.3L engines. GM claims the 5.3 has more power and better economy. That has not been my experience. The 5.7 always felt like it had more grunt and got better mileage. This truck needs both. I average 14-15 mpg. On the whole, though, a great truck.

Owned a 2004 for a month. Pleasure to drive. Excellent ride. As a custom home builder need to pick up supplies very often. Avalanche converts to "truck" within 15 seconds and can easily put 9 long pieces of wood in it which are protected from the weather. Smartest vehicle buy I have ever made!

This is a very dependable vehicle and the ride is outstanding. The versatilty of the mid gate and the three peice topper is also very nice. The quality is very good and the styling looks terrific.

First week with about 200 miles on it. Sold my 2003 Dodge for a 2004 Z66 and this is quite an upgrade as far as ride and comfort. Taking $10,000 off the sticker didnt hurt either.

For a truck, it is a dream to drive, and is so convienent to use. It will do the heaviest jobs, yet it is a great looking truck. I drive it as my main vehicle everywhere without feeling like I am a truck driver - even on dates. I am extremely happy with my Avalanche. I would recommend it to anyone.

A superb effort on the part of GM to provide an excellent SUV/truck hybrid. Vehicle was in shop three times due to computer issues but afterwards has been fine since then. A lot of cabin space makes sure you are not on top of each other. Back seat passengers enjoy great legroom and comfortable seats. Used mid-gate fold down to haul a Christmas tree last year. Lots of small storage portions on the back of the pick-up bed surround. Great sunroof lets the outside in. OnStar is a blessing should you run into any crisis no matter how mild. There is something to be said about having someone on standby to help you if you get into an accident. XM Radio is beauitful. Exterior still turns heads.
