This Year's Model Updates:

Front lumbar supports and automatic climate control are now standard on all models, while the 4.4i gets standard park distance control. The optional auto-dimming rearview mirror now includes a digital compass. High-gloss dark wood trim is standard on the 3.0i and replaces high-gloss light wood trim as standard on the 4.4i. Anthracite wood trim and high-gloss light wood trim are available at no extra charge.

Pros:
  • Rides and drives like a BMW sedan, multiple drivetrain choices, top safety scores, high-end cabin furnishings.
Cons:
  • Not much cargo space, lousy fuel economy for a car-based SUV, expensive option packages.

2400 miles into ownership Im quite happy. Mileage of 16.5 mpg driving "assertively". Only 1 minor scratch on interior door handle to complain of. Sports package ride is rigid but not uncomfortable. Test drive with and without that package to see what suits you. Adjustable rear seat is useful when loading cargo area.

I bought this SUV almost 3 years ago and already have had problems!! It needed a new transmission at 54,000 miles and just recently had 2 sensors go out that cost $1,000 to repair. I really had hoped to keep this car for many years, but now dont want to take my chances with any more repair bills. Love my car, but not that much. I prefer reliability over repair bills!

The BMW X5 is a great car to drive on the highway, but is completely unsafe to drive in the snow, even with snow tires. The rear wheel drive is too unreliable. The seats in the front of the SUV are comfortable for about 20 minutes, but after that, your back will get sore. The back seats are too stiff, for there is no siding for your back, and no grip.

THE CAR IS OVERALL AWESOME THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS BEING A CAR OWNER OF A LEXUS THE FEATURES THAT ARE OFFERED INSIDE ARE NOT AS MODERN AS I WOULD HAVE LIKED. THE CAR RIDES BETTER THAN ANY OTHER CAR I EVER RODE

  • except for lousy gas milage ,love it - 2005 BMW X5

My x5 3.0i automatic was purchased in March 2005 new. I now have 5800 miles on it and have had no problems what so ever. The SAV is alpine white, the paint and fit and finish is perfect. The interior is charcoal rugs and dash with dark popular wood trim. The seats are truffle brown. Plenty of leg, shoulder and headroom. Interior is ultra quite no wind noise or traffic can be heard I’m not kidding this SAV is out side noise free at any speed. Performance is outstanding for a 225 horsepower straight 6. Had it up to 120 mph not to long ago and had no vibration what so ever, SAV was like floating on a cloud also had plenty of gas peddle left. Electronic climate control is beautiful, gas mileage stinks.

  • I love my x5 - 2005 BMW X5

The truck is fun to drive, handles great, very comfortable and has great visibility. It feels strong, and I feel safe in it. The only downfall is the fuel economy. Im always at the gas pump. The onboard computer reads 16.9 mpg, however the floating needle is pinned at 8 mpg every time I accelerate, and levels off around 12. A small price to pay for a great vehicle. I also dont agree with the small cargo coments. There is plenty of room back there.

  • Ive had 3 and this is the best yet - 2005 BMW X5

I have had 3 BMW X 5s in a row My first was a 2000 3 litre which was very good but lacked a bit of punch, I then got the 4.4 litre 2003 which was great but then I upgraded to the 2004 with the full glass roof, the new engine and transmission and it is better. It is great in the snow, handles really well and brakes that way too. The fuel economy is not even good but it is slightly better than my previous 4.4 litre. The premium seats are terrific and the sound system is up to snuff. So who cares if the look is a bit stodgy and could use a real redo. Please BMW dont kill it looks wise like you did my beloved 540i or Ill finally have to go to the competition.

BMW continues not understanding electronics. Problems with GPS, power locks, rear window washer, etc. BMW still only gives cassette option at dash. No wonder their sales are dropping. Third and last BMW.
