Overview & Reviews
Front lumbar supports and automatic climate control are now standard on all models, while the 4.4i gets standard park distance control. The optional auto-dimming rearview mirror now includes a digital compass. High-gloss dark wood trim is standard on the 3.0i and replaces high-gloss light wood trim as standard on the 4.4i. Anthracite wood trim and high-gloss light wood trim are available at no extra charge.
- Rides and drives like a BMW sedan, multiple drivetrain choices, top safety scores, high-end cabin furnishings.
- Not much cargo space, lousy fuel economy for a car-based SUV, expensive option packages.

One X5 is enough - 2005 BMW X5
By Kay - September 24 - 4:13 pmHad my 2002 X5 since new. At 3000 miles experienced overheating problems. At 17000 miles the entire HVAC unit had to be replaced-water flooding the interior P/S. Speedo has a 5mph error (slow) that I was told was inherent in BMWs - dealer quote "BMW does not want their owners driving too fast". I/P center stack has a severe rattle at the radio cover, console has a severe rattle at the cupholder cover, to date the dealer has not been able to repair either. When I use the heated seats the headlamps dim. Steering is very heavy feeling, difficult in tight, low- speed turning. Would not recommend this car to anyone.

Totally Unreliable! - 2005 BMW X5
By dr d. hill - April 5 - 8:34 pmFun car to drive! No fun in the snow with 4.4i Sport package. Electrical nightmare! Check Fog lights continues to menace us after "fixing" the problem four times by Phil Winslow BMW, Colorado Springs. Ashtray rattles, armrests squeak, rear storage cover flimsy, on-board computer on the blink, door locks faulty, rear heated seats faulty, ghost in the rear view mirrors, steering wheel whines when turning, tailgate locks after opening then closing doors, small and very expensive. First and last BMW I will ever own! Just recently bought a Lexus GX470. What service. I should have never left Toyota/Lexus!

100 Days in the Shop. Its a lemon. - 2005 BMW X5
By X5ers - December 21 - 10:30 pmNice drive, when it works. My car spent 110 days in the shop during a 2 year lease. And BMW refused to help!
