  • Wish I could drive all day for work! - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Although Ive only owned the new 2004 530i only 4 months I can honestly say that its the smoothest and quietest car that Ive driven! The interior is simple yet elegant and most all of the controls are handeled thru the I-Drive control, which after the first drive or so, is easy to navigate. Its a "cockpit" feel, esp. at night time w/ the reddish glowlites, but very comfortable with the add-on Comfort seats

After driving my 530i everyday, ive learned why other BMW owners stay loyal. Its the best car ive owned so far!

  • First BMW - 2004 BMW 5-Series

This car is beautiful. My first rear- wheel drive car has had no problems in bad NY weather, despite the ominous prediction of my former Lexus salesman! Handles like a dream and although not quite as speedy off the line as the 530, I dont think the price increase is justified for a bigger engine and bigger wheels. BTW, if youre reading this message, you can probably handle the i-Drive. This is certainly the finest sedan Ive ever owned.

the passenger airbag light in the overhead console is bright enough to use as a map light. what were they thinking?

  • Best 5 yet - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Ive had the car since late November, and it has been great. The active steering took a little getting used to, but after having it I wouldnt want to have a car without it. Ive been on 2 road trips and the car was great on the highway--quiet and solid. The i-drive was my only other concern, and I actually like it now.

  • Former E-Class Owner - 2004 BMW 5-Series

After owning two E-class MBs (420 and 430 Sport), I was ready to get a third until I saw the new 5 series. The new E-class is nice, but the 5 series is more masculine and sporty looking, notwithstanding the bashing Bangle has taken. While Mercedes has made all of their vehicles look more generic, there will be no mistaking the 5 series for a 3 or 7. I have received more compliments about this car in a month than I got in a year in the Benz. Overall, the car performs very well, looks good and is a great daily driver. I was concerned about going from a 275 hp motor down to the 3 liters 225 hp, but the performance is good enough and I have avg 27 mpg.

  • Not as Great As Expected - 2004 BMW 5-Series
    By -

While I love the styling of the new design and its overall road handling prowess, the performance of the 525i is less than expected. Not much guts in the low end of each gear, but once it ramps up its fine. I can only imagine how poorly it must perform with an automatic transmission; good enough for little old ladies on a Sunday afternoon, I suppose. Cup holders are of very poor quality and the i-drive system had to be replaced in the first 3 months of ownership.

  • 1st time "Beamer" owner - 2004 BMW 5-Series
    By -

Really fun to drive....kinda like falling in love in highschool! REALLY wish they had front wheel drive though. Im from S.D. and we get plenty of snow and ice in the winter. Since this is my first "Beamer", I am concerned about how I will make it through the elements with this car.

  • First SMG delivered - 2004 BMW 5-Series
    By -

I picked up the first US Spec SMG from Munich(military guy) WOW the SMG was outstanding. It works best in sport mode but perfect as reviewed. I drove on the Autobahn what an expeience!! To be able to cruise at 145MPH this car was a dream. It kicked ass in the twisties of the Alps. IDrive is simple and a fun to use
