This Year's Model Updates:

The BMW 3 Series sedan and wagon have been completely redesigned for 2006. Major highlights include new features, more powerful engines, a slightly larger interior and the incorporation of BMW's latest exterior styling elements. The 3 Series coupe and convertible are unchanged this year but will eventually move over to the new platform being used for the sedan and wagon; expect to see a new hardtop convertible for the 2008 model year.

Pros:
  • Still the standard when it comes to perfectly sorted vehicle dynamics, high-quality interior materials, wide range of configurations to suit any style, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Still costs more than most of its competitors, lacking in interior storage space.

  • Its noisy - 2006 BMW 3-Series

The 330xi is not a car to purchase if you are looking for comfort. The size is not bad and it can be fun to drive. It has good mileage, decent interior, plenty of nice amenities. However it is a noisy ride. The road noise is almost deafening after awhile. If you use the bluetooth feature to talk on the cell phone you cant hear your caller. Apparently it needs new tires every 10K miles. Yes, 10K miles (they will tell you its more like 15K but they are lying). This car has turned me off of BMW (and I have had several). Never again.

  • Best in class, doesnt say much - 2006 BMW 3-Series

Less than a year of ownership and my 2006 330i has had 3 major problems: bad brakes; HVAC stops working; comfort access works intermittently. Yes, its fun to drive - once I replaced the lousy run flat tires. The handling and feedback are best in class, but that mostly reflects on the weakness of the class. Woefully underpowered with the 255 hp 3.0. The exteriors a total nightmare. But again, in the class, theyre all ugly. Big, bloated and very heavy describe the 330is outside. The interiors cavernous and very Buick-like. All around the cars a gross departure from my dearly departed 2003 330i ZHP. Unless the class sharpens up though, I cant imagine getting anything else.

  • Great to Drive...but ugly!!! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

Great driving car, power, handling is second to none in this class. But the car is bloated looking and the rear is hideous. Interior is not up to par with a 40K plus car.

  • Save your money! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I bought this car new 3 weeks ago. I am not satisfied at all. First, let me say that I also own a 2003 BMW 330i so I do have some BMW ownership experience. The 2006 330i is unsatisfactory, in my opinion. Ive already had it back to the dealer because it is hesitating noticeable when starting from a stopped position. Of course, they said they couldnt find anything wrong. If you floor it, and then let up on the gas, the RPMs stay up for a coule of seconds even after you take your foot off the gas like the car cant figure out what to do next. It also needs a front end alignment which I noticed immediately when test driving it, but they dont have the specs to repair that yet.

  • OK Car but you can get a better car for that money - 2006 BMW 3-Series

We bought the vehicle on june of 2015, we owned 3 previous MB GLKs (totaled 2) and a C240. We had great expectations about this car since supposedly is the Ultimate Driving machine. Steering wheel is extremely stiff, I know thats how german cars are but this was beyond any other VW or MB I have driving before. Brakes are great, and acceleration, oh man, pfffew, IT GOES!!!!!!! It is super fast. Fuel economy is OK for a 3.0 engine. X Drive works good in the snow but its height does not compensate the 4x4. The bad, YOU WILL HAVE A MISFIRE! For sure, ignition coil will go bad any time after 50.000 miles, for some reason most of them burn oil even with low mileage. That is what I have been told. BMW dealer maintenance is really expensive. HID bulbs cost about $300 in the dealership plus $100 labor. I know crazy! Oil change about $300. The interioR quality is HORRIBLE, It just feels cheap. The plastics, even the wood trim. As of 2/16 we ended up getting another MB GLK 350. And now we have the car for sale. Overall, OK car. Better than any Jap car, not as good as other european.

  • Looks great, performes well, but ??? - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

When it come to repairs, tires, and maintenance, it will cost you a bundle. However, if you want a ride that looks great at 10 years old, gets unexpectedly good mileage on the highway, drive well in the curves, and is nicely appointed, youll like it. You need to have confidence in your dealer and repair shop because you will see them way too often. Also, the run-flat tires are noisy, wear out quickly, and are rough riding. Its too much of a price to pay for not having a spare tire. If you fancy yourself a BMW driver, youll love this car. If its for tooling around town, get something else. It is a highway (autobahn) car!

  • Too Expensive - 2006 BMW 3-Series

After shopping BMW, Acura, Lexus and Honda, decided on the BMW. It was my wifes choice of cars. Bad choice. My neighbor bought the Acura TL and it runs circles around the BMW in performance, luxury and price. The BMW is slow, very loud and rides horribly. I know it is a road car but the ride on the run flat tires is absolutely terrible. Speaking of the run flats, these tires were a huge mistake on the part of BMW. Mine have 11500 and will need replacement in another few hundred miles. The car also wont hold an alignment. The paint quality is also very poor. Next time I will buy the Acura with better engineering, performance, price and quality.

  • First and Last - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

This is my first and last BMW. I am very disappointed in this car. I have already had to replace the run-flat tires. When I took the car in for its maintenance service, I was told tires were a safety issue and lucky I havent had an accident yet. Around 15,000 miles, tires started making an awful droning noise. Leather already flaking and peeling in several areas. Other family members have leather in their cars and never an issue. Dealer would only fix the rear air console. All other areas considered "normal wear and tear" per the dealer. Have had to bring it in 3 times for computer adjustments. Steering column also had to be replaced.

  • A dream that became a nightmare!! - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

I was very excited after purchasing my first BMW. Shortly after that the nightmare started with low oil level warnings. I took the car twice to the BMW dealer who recognized the faulty design of the oil level sensor. Also had valve ticking engine noise: bad exhaust valve lifters. Another issue happened when the vehicle stalled in the highway and could not start it again. The problem was found to be the tone wheel became loose (where the position picks its signal from front of the crankshaft). Very disappointing.

  • Tires, Tires, Tires - 2006 BMW 3-Series
    By -

The run flat tires on this car have been a nightmare. I have owned 6 3 series since 92 and loved, I repeat loved every one of the until now. The noise coming from these tires at speeds lower than 60 mph all the way down to 3-6 mph is unacceptable. I was told at 8K miles that I had to replace all four tires. The controls are also very difficult to reach. I am tall and I have trouble but anybody with short arms is in trouble. The outside is very nice. The auto traction does some strange things at low speeds and when I pull into the garage it actually brakes when I contact the lip to the floor.
